On 5 September, the Subcommittee will exchange views on the outcome and main decisions of the NATO Summit in Warsaw with representatives from NATO and the EEAS. The Alliance is faced with an evolving complex threat environment. NATO reaffirmed that its countries are united in protecting and defending their indivisible security and common values by fulfilling effectively all three core tasks: collective defence, crisis management and cooperative security.
At the same meeting the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission, and the Secretary General of NATO have issued a joint declaration to give new impetus and new substance to the EU-NATO strategic partnership.

On 5 September, the Subcommittee will consider the draft report on the implementation of the Common Security and Defence Policy by Ioan Mircea PAŞCU, S&D. The draft report advocates a thorough revision of the CSDP to better equip Europe in an increasingly unstable and volatile internal and external security environment.

On 5 September, the Subcommittee will consider the draft report on the European Defence Union by Urmas Paet, ALDE. This draft advocates the progressive framing of the European Defence Union, with a view to its establishment under the next multiannual political and financial framework of the EU. It also elaborates on the process and the contents of the EU White Book on security and defence and describes preparatory activities which should be launched immediately.

Allgemeines : Die Verhandlungen über das umfassende Wirtschafts- und Handelsabkommen CETA (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement) zwischen der EU und Kanada sind abgeschlossen. Das Freihandelsabkommen muss noch vom EU-Parlament, dem Ministerrat und den nationalen Parlamenten gebilligt werden. Der Ausschuss für Internationalen Handel debattierte am Mittwoch (31.8.) über das CETA-Abkommen. Im Anschluss haben wir den Berichterstatter, den lettischen EU-Abgeordneten Artis Pabriks (EVP), dazu interviewt.

Der österreichische Kanzler Christian Kern hat Widerstand gegen das geplante Freihandelsabkommen zwischen der EU und Kanada (Ceta) angekündigt.

Die Vorsitzende der rechten französischen Partei Front National, Marine Le Pen, stellt sich hinter den US-Präsidentschaftskandidaten Donald Trump. Dieser kündigte ein hartes Vorgehen gegen illegale Einwanderung an.

SPD-Vize Ralf Stegner will die Tür zu einem Freihandelsabkommen der EU mit den USA trotz aller Kritik noch nicht ganz zuschlagen. Die Union wirft Sigmar Gabriel einen "Schlingerkurs" zu TTIP vor.

Rechtspopulistische Parteien, die entweder die Rechtsaußenallianz von Marine Le Pen ENF oder Nigel Farages EFDD unterstützen, sind besonders in den sechs Gründerstaaten der Europäischen Union stark, zeigen Zahlen des europeanmeter des Monats August.

Die rechtspopulistische AfD hat einer Umfrage zufolge Chancen, bei der Landtagswahl in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern am Sonntag zweitstärkste Partei zu werden.

Als Christian Kern vor 113 Tagen als neuer Bundeskanzler das Amt antrat, versprach er einen „New Deal“ in der Regierungsarbeit. Geworden ist es nun eine neue Informationspolitik.

Es ist ein Jahr her, dass die deutsche Kanzlerin Angela Merkel in der Flüchtlingskrise formulierte: “Wir schaffen das”.
