Donald Trumps Druck auf EU-Pharmaunternehmen, ihren Standort in die USA zu verlegen, mag zwar bei seiner Wählerschaft kleine Erfolge bringen, steht jedoch vor großen strukturellen und logistischen Hürden.

Deutschland hat lange geopolitische Gefahren übersehen, sagt der renommierte Politikwissenschaftler Stefan Mair. Er verlangt einen neuen Blick der Regierung auf Risiken.

Die Bemühungen der EU, die Militärausgaben zu erhöhen, könnten ihre finanzielle Sicherheit untergraben, so die dänische Wirtschaftsministerin. Um dies zu verhindern, müssen die EU-Staaten ihre steigenden Defizite und Schulden eindämmen.

Auf der Suche nach verlässlichen Bezugsquellen für mineralische Rohstoffe gerät auch die Tiefsee in den Blick – internationale Raumnutzungskonflikte könnten die Folge sein. Obwohl das Wissen über mögliche Auswirkungen des Tiefseebergbaus unzureichend ist, hat die US-Regierung mit einem Dekret von Präsident Trump eine nationale Initiative gestartet, die das von der Weltgemeinschaft getragene Verständnis der mineralischen Ressourcen am Meeres­boden beschädigt: Diese gelten als globales Gemeinschaftsgut unter dem einheitlichen Regime des See­rechts­überein­kommens der Vereinten Nationen (SRÜ). Würde durch die USA tatsächlich einseitig die kommerzielle Phase des Tiefseebergbaus eingeläutet, würde ein Eckpfeiler des Völkerrechts angegriffen und die zentrale Grundlage der Ozeandiplo­matie sowie der Meerespolitik in Frage gestellt. Deutschland hat sich zusammen mit 36 Staaten zuletzt auf der Weltozeankonferenz der Vereinten Natio­nen (UNOC-3) im Juni 2025 dagegen ausgesprochen: Es hat seine Haltung für eine »präventive Pause« und gegen einen Einsatz dieser Hochrisikotechnologie zur Nut­zung der Meeresbodenressourcen be­kräf­tigt. Dies sollte auch angesichts weltpolitischer Verwerfungen weiterhin gelten.

The work examines the implementation of the EU's Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime since its adoption in 2020, assessing its use and impact.
The session will be followed by the presentation of the draft report on "Addressing impunity through EU sanctions, including the EU Global Human Rights sanctions regime - so called EU Magnitsky Act."

The publication “The rise of radical right and Eurosceptic political forces and the impact on the EU’s enlargement policy” is a result of the initiative think nea – New Narratives of EU Integration, funded by the Open Society Foundations – Western Balkans.

This policy brief which was prepared in collaboration with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Dialogue Southeast Europe presents the core findings and strategic recommendations of the full report. It is intended to provide the audience with a concise, accessible overview of the key insights and proposed actions.

With war raging on the European Union’s eastern border and the bloc seeking to redefine its geopolitical identity, another political transformation is unfolding within: the growing influence of radical right and Eurosceptic parties. Once largely marginalised actors, these forces are now increasingly reshaping Europe’s political priorities from within national parliaments and Brussels. This report takes stock of the growing influence of radical right and Eurosceptic political forces within the EU and examines the implications for EU enlargement policy.

In additional to the brief, a factsheet of the report was prepared in order to provide a condensed outline on how the growing influence of radical right and Eurosceptic parties is reshaping EU politics and what this means for the future of EU enlargement.

Das Statistische Bundesamt hat heute bekannt gegeben, dass die reale Produktion im Produzierenden Gewerbe im Mai 2025 um 1,2 Prozent zum Vormonat gestiegen ist. Dazu eine Einschätzung von Geraldine Dany-Knedlik, Konjunkturchefin des Deutschen Instituts für Wirtschaftsforschung (DIW Berlin):

Die Entwicklung der Produktion, vor allem im Verarbeitenden Gewerbe, weckt seit Jahresbeginn Hoffnung: Die deutsche Industrie scheint ihre Talsohle nun allmählich durchschritten zu haben. Im Mai ist die Produktion wieder gestiegen und scheint sich seit Jahresbeginn auf einem Niveau zu stabilisieren, nachdem sie seit 2018 einen deutlichen Abwärtstrend verfolgte. Ähnlich sieht es bei den Auftragseingängen aus, die sich seit Jahresbeginn im Schnitt besser entwickeln. Besonders die steigende Auslandsnachfrage sorgt derzeit für Schwung. So sind die Aufträge ins Ausland stetig und deutlich gestiegen – trotz der erratischen Zollpolitik der USA. Das stimmt zuversichtlich, denn der deutsche Außenhandel hat seit längerem kaum noch vom florierenden Welthandel profitieren können. Mit einer rasanten Erholung der Industrie kann allerdings nicht gerechnet werden, denn strukturelle Faktoren bleiben vorerst bestehen. Fachkräftemangel und sinkende Wettbewerbsfähigkeit aufgrund von hohen Produktionskosten dürften auch weiter die deutsche Industrie belasten. Es bleibt zu hoffen, dass die zuletzt positivere Entwicklung darauf zurückzuführen ist, dass Anpassungen der deutschen Industrie an die strukturellen Herausforderungen erste Früchte tragen. 

Beim Klimaschutz versuchten die BRICS-Staaten bisher vor allem, die westlichen Industrieländer in die Pflicht zu nehmen, so der Politologe Ole Adolphsen. Vor dem Weltklimagipfel gewännen in der Organisation eigene Klimainitiativen größere Bedeutung.
