Oroszországban több mint ötven olyan könyvet égettek el a hatóságok, amelyek Soros György alapítványának gondozásában jelentettek meg, és több mint ötszáz ilyen kötetet távolítottak el főiskolai könyvtárakból, mert szerintük olyan nézeteket tartalmaznak, amelyek idegenek az „orosz világnézettől”.

A vorkutai Bányászati és Gazdasági Főiskola könyvtárosa azt mondta: 53 könyvet égettek el az intézmény hátsó udvarában, arra hivatkozva, hogy azok a könyvtár idejétmúlt anyagai közé tartoztak.

Az orosz főállamügyészség november végén nyilvánította nemkívánatossá Soros György két alapítványát, a Nyílt Társadalom Alapítványt és a Nyílt Társadalom Intézetének Támogatási Alapítványát, arra hivatkozva, hogy veszélyeztetik Oroszország alkotmányos rendjét és az állam biztonságát.
