Plenary sessions : MEPs voted emergency measures into law on Thursday to help Tunisia’s economy by importing 70,000 tonnes of its virgin olive oil duty free in 2016/17, after adding safeguards for EU olive oil producers. These include a mid-term assessment of the effects of the measures, updating them if they turn out to be harmful, and ensuring that the imports are tracked from start to finish.

On 9 March 2016, the Council agreed on an emergency support mechanism in response to the difficult humanitarian situation caused by the refugee crisis notably in Greece. This enables the EU to help Greece and other affected member states to address the humanitarian needs of the large numbers of arrivals of men, women and children.

Ces challenges sont au cœur d’une conférence sur l’enseignement supérieur, organisée le 9 mars à Amsterdam par le ministère de l’Éducation, de la Culture...

How are we preparing students in Europe for a labour market in flux? And for active participation in an ever-diversifying society? And, how is higher education applying the latest technology? In short: what are we doing to ensure that European higher education is ready for the future? These challenges will be discussed at the EU presidency conference ‘The Future of Higher Education’, being organised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in Amsterdam on 9 March.

EU economic and financial affairs ministers (Ecofin) meeting today in Brussels reached political agreement on the exchange of tax information. The agreement was announced by Dutch finance minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem at a press conference following the meeting.  

On Monday 7 March, Prime Minister Mark Rutte attended the EU summit with Turkey to discuss the migration crisis.

On 10 March a new overview will be presented of all large research facilities with projects of pan-European importance. This 2016 Roadmap will be launched at a conference in Amsterdam, which is being held in the context of the Netherlands EU Presidency.
