On 14 December 2022, the European Union and Malaysia signed the EU-Malaysia Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) in Brussels.

This draft regulation is part of ongoing efforts to modernise and digitalise cross-border judicial cooperation.

Following the EU-ASEAN commemorative summit in Brussels on 14 December 2022, EU and ASEAN leaders agreed the joint statement.

The Council adopted its position on the proposal for a regulation on the transparency and targeting of political advertising.

This proposal is part of ongoing efforts to modernise and digitalise cross-border judicial cooperation, making it easier for prosecutors and judges to exchange information and bring criminals to justice.

The Council approved conclusions on enlargement and stabilisation and association process.

Under the new recommendations member states should not impose any restrictions on travel on the grounds of public health. However, the recommendations keep a number of safeguards in case of a deteriorating epidemiological situation.

Council approves fishing opportunities for 2023 in the Atlantic, North Sea, Mediterranean and Black Sea, as well as for deep sea stocks.

The co-legislators reached a provisional agreement on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which is expected to boost climate-friendly industrial production outside the borders of the EU.

EU member states agree to suspend approximately €6.3 billion of budgetary commitments in cohesion policy programmes for Hungary.

President Michel invited 27 leaders to the EU-ASEAN Summit and the December European Council. The European Council meeting will focus on Ukraine, energy and economy, security and defence, Southern Neighbourhood and external relations.

The leaders of the G7 met on 12 December to reflect on progress of their cooperation under Germany’s Presidency to jointly address global challenges at a time of severe geopolitical crisis and critical moment for the world economy.

The Council approved conclusions on Iran, added 20 individuals and one entity to the Iran human rights sanctions list, and added four individuals and four entities to the list of those subject to restrictive measures for undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

The Council added eight individuals and four entities to the list of those subject to EU restrictive measures against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in view of continued ballistic-missile-related activities.

The Council approved conclusions on the civilian CSDP compact.
