“Ukraine is the largest displacement crisis in Europe since the Balkan wars,” according to Argentina Szabados, IOM, the UN Migration Agency’s Regional Director for Southeastern and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. “Now in its fifth year, with thousands dead and 1.5 million displaced, it is scandalous that this conflict remains largely forgotten.”

She was speaking on her return to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on Sunday (10/06) following a visit to conflict-affected areas of Eastern Ukraine.

“What has particularly moved me is that one-third of the affected are elderly, who have practically nothing. How are they supposed to take care of themselves and ensure they have enough food, fuel, warm clothing or medicines, or to repair their houses that have been ruined by shelling?”

The conflict in the east of Ukraine has escalated over recent weeks, causing widespread destruction and casualties among military and civilians, aggravating the suffering on both sides of the so-called contact line.

Despite all this, crisis response efforts in Ukraine remain underfunded, with the Humanitarian Response Plan for last year only funded to the tune of 37 per cent. This year’s plan has only received 17 per cent of the USD 38 million sought.

Regional Director Szabados visited the country to show IOM’s solidarity with conflict-affected communities, spending time with the communities, staff, donors, and partners in the country. IOM provides direct humanitarian aid, employment training and grants, supports initiatives aimed at social cohesion and peacebuilding, and helps rehabilitate social infrastructure. Since the annexation of Crimea and outbreak of the conflict in 2014, IOM has assisted over 245,000 internally displaced and conflict-affected persons.

Meeting with Regional Director Szabados, Vadym Chernysh, Minister for Temporary Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine, noted that “it is of crucial importance to assist the most vulnerable among both displaced and local populations for successful conflict prevention and peacebuilding, as IOM does”.

On her return from the Donetsk Region Szabados spoke of the “heartbreaking stories” she had heard and seen. She praised the resilience of those who had been able to start their lives from scratch, developing successful businesses or finding employment in their new communities. “IOM provided them with additional resources – assets and some training – but it is their own motivation and courage that makes the result so impressive”.

“The international community’s involvement is vital in assisting the most vulnerable; supporting millions of conflict-affected Ukrainians and strengthening recovery. The people of Ukraine must be able to get back on their feet and build a future filled with hope,” added Szabados. “It is time to act”.

The SMM recorded fewer ceasefire violations in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, compared with the previous 24 hours. The Mission observed damage caused by shelling in and near residential areas of Donetskyi as well as nearby positions. The SMM continued monitoring the disengagement areas near Stanytsia Luhanska, Zolote and Petrivske; it recorded ceasefire violations inside the Zolote and Petrivske disengagement areas. The SMM observed a newly extended trench north of the Petrivske disengagement area and again observed military-type hardware and positions inside the disengagement area. The Mission’s access remained restricted in all three disengagement areas and was also restricted near Izvaryne and Sievernyiat the border with the Russian Federation, as well as in Krasnolutskyi. The SMM observed weapons in violation of withdrawal lines on both sides of the contact line. The Mission continued to facilitate the access of Voda Donbassa water company employees to the Donetsk Filtration Station and to monitor the security situation around the station. It continued to monitor and facilitate repairs to the Petrivske pumping station near Artema.

In Donetskregion, the SMM recorded fewer ceasefire violations[1], including about 280 explosions, compared with the previous 24 hours (315 explosions). 

On the evening and night of 10-11 June, the SMM camera at the Donetsk Filtration Station (DFS) (15km north of Donetsk) recorded, in sequence, three projectiles in flight from east to west and a projectile from west to east, followed by totals of two undetermined explosions, 28 projectiles (17 from east to west and 11 from west to east) and four illumination flares in flight (two from west to east, one from east to west and one from south to north), all 0.5-1.5km south.

During the day on 11 June, positioned on the western edge of Yasynuvata (non-government-controlled, 16km north-east of Donetsk) for about six hours, the SMM heard two undetermined explosions and about 80 shots and bursts of heavy-machine-gun and small-arms fire, all 1-7km at directions ranging from south-west to west.

The same day, positioned on the south-eastern edge of Avdiivka (government-controlled, 17km north of Donetsk) for about five hours, the SMM heard four undetermined explosions and about 30 shots and bursts of small-arms fire, all 1-6km at directions ranging from east-south-east to south. 

On the evening and night of 10-11 June, while in Svitlodarsk (government-controlled, 57km north-east of Donetsk), the SMM heard about 230 undetermined explosions and about 370 bursts of heavy-machine-gun and small-arms fire, all 2-5km at directions ranging from south-east to south-south-west. During the day on 11 June, while at the same location, the SMM heard 20 undetermined explosions and eight bursts of heavy-machine-gun fire, all 1-5km at directions ranging from south-east to south-south-west.

On the evening and night of 10-11 June, the SMM camera at the entry-exit checkpoint in Maiorsk (government-controlled, 45km north-east of Donetsk) recorded, in sequence, an illumination flare in flight from north to south, eight projectiles in flight from south to north and an undetermined explosion, followed by totals of 11 undetermined explosions, about 350 projectiles (235 from south to north and about 115 from north to south), three illumination flares (two from south to north and one from north to south) and seven bursts from south to north, all 2-5km east.

During the day on 11 June, while in Horlivka (non-government-controlled, 39km north-east of Donetsk), the SMM heard an explosion assessed as an outgoing artillery round 2-3km south-south-east as well as eight undetermined explosions and about 20 bursts of heavy-machine-gun fire, all 3-5km south-west.

In Luhanskregion, the SMM recorded fewer ceasefire violations (no explosions), compared with the previous 24 hours (six explosions). 

The SMM observed damage caused by shelling in and near residential areas of Donetskyi (non-government-controlled, 49km west of Luhansk). On 9 June, an SMM mini-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) spotted 38 fresh craters near firing positions and dugouts about 300m south of a residential area of the village, assessed as caused by probable 120mm mortar rounds fired from a north-westerly direction. In the southern part of the village, the same UAV also spotted a hole in the roof of a school building and four members of the armed formations near the building, as well as debris on the roof of a kindergarten about 100m further south-east (the SMM was unable to assess the type of weapon used or the direction of fire or whether the damage and debris were fresh). Near a bridge in the eastern part of Holubivske (non-government-controlled, 51km west of Luhansk), on 8 June, a man and two women who identified themselves as residents of Donetskyi told the SMM that they had heard shelling between 22:00 and 02:00 on 7-8 June and between 05:00 and 07:00 on the morning of 8 June. (The SMM was unable to access Donetskyi due to security reasons.)

The SMM continued to monitor the disengagement process and to pursue full access to the disengagement areas near Stanytsia Luhanska (government-controlled, 16km north-east of Luhansk), Zolote (government-controlled, 60km west of Luhansk) and Petrivske (non-government-controlled, 41km south of Donetsk), as foreseen in the Framework Decision of the Trilateral Contact Group relating to disengagement of forces and hardwareof 21 September 2016. The SMM’s access remained restricted, but the Mission was able to partially monitor them.* 

On the evening of 9 June, the SMM camera in Petrivske recorded three tracer rounds in flight from south to north, followed by an undetermined explosion, all 1-2km south-west (all assessed as inside the disengagement area).

On 9 June, inside the Petrivske disengagement area, an SMM mini-UAV again spotted an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) (BMP variant) 1.8km east of its western edge and 1.2km south of its northern edge. About 600m further north, inside the disengagement area, the same UAV spotted a mortar (2B14 Podnos, 82mm) under camouflage netting in a recently dug mortar pit, a heavy machine gun in a recently dug firing position and Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel. (See SMM Daily Report 21 May 2018.) The UAV also spotted three IFVs (BMP variants) along a tree line about 600m south of the disengagement area and 25 anti-tank mines (TM-62) laid across a road about 150m north of the disengagement area (see SMM Daily Report 14 March 2018).

On 10 June, an SMM mini-UAV spotted for the first time a 70m-long extension of a trench system about 100m north of the disengagement area, about 150m north-east of Petrivske (not visible in imagery from 7 February 2018).

On the evening of 10 June, the SMM camera in Zolote recorded, in sequence, two projectiles in flight from north to south 2-4km south-east (assessed as inside the disengagement area), a projectile from north-west to south-east 5-8km south-east, a projectile from south-west to north-east 5-8km east and seven projectiles from north-west to south-east 5-10km east and east-north-east (all assessed as outside the disengagement area). 

On 11 June, positioned in the Stanytsia Luhanska disengagement area, the SMM observed a calm situation.

The SMM continued to monitor the withdrawal of weapons in implementation of the Memorandum and the Package of Measures and its Addendum.

In violation of withdrawal lines in government-controlled areas, on 9 June, an SMM long-range UAV spotted six self-propelled howitzers (2S3 Akatsiya, 152mm) near Zoria (22km north-east of Mariupol). On 11 June, the SMM saw a surface-to-air missile system (9K33 Osa) near Sopyne (16km east of Mariupol).

In violation of withdrawal lines in non-government-controlled areas, on 9 June, an SMM long-range UAV spotted two mortars (2B11 Sani, 120mm) and a surface-to-air missile system (9K35 Strela-10) near Novolaspa (50km south of Donetsk).

Beyond withdrawal lines but outside of designated storage sites in a non-government-controlled area, the SMM saw seven tanks (T-64) in firing positions in a training area near Kruhlyk (31km south-west of Luhansk).

The SMM observed armoured combat vehicles (ACV) and an anti-aircraft weapon[2]in the security zone. In government-controlled areas, on 9 June, an SMM long-range UAV spotted an armoured reconnaissance vehicle (BRDM-2) near Pisky (11km north-west of Donetsk), two armoured personnel carriers (APC) (one BTR-60 and one BTR variant) near Nevelske (18km north-west of Donetsk), a fire control vehicle (MT-LB 1VXX variant) near Marinka (23km south-west of Donetsk), an APC (MT-LB) near Berezove (31km south-west of Donetsk), two APCs (one BTR-70 and one BTR-80) and four ACVs (BMP variants) near Novotroitske (36km south-west of Donetsk) and an IFV (BMP-1) near Novohryhorivka (55km south of Donetsk). On 11 June, the SMM saw a self-propelled anti-aircraft system (ZU-23-4 Shilka, 23mm) near Sopyne.

In non-government-controlled areas, on 8 June, an SMM mini-UAV spotted three IFVs (BMP-2) and an APC (MT-LB) near Vesela Hora (16km north of Luhansk). On 9 June, an SMM long-range UAV spotted an IFV (BMP-1) near Novolaspa and an SMM mini-UAV spotted an APC (BTR-80) near Donetskyi (see above). On 11 June, the SMM saw an IFV (BMP-1) in Kadiivka (formerly Stakhanov, non-government-controlled, 50km west of Luhansk).

The SMM continued to facilitate the access of Voda Donbassa water company employees to and from the DFS, as well as demining activities around the station, through monitoring adherence to the ceasefire. Positioned in areas near the DFS, the SMM heard about 160 ceasefire violations in the area, despite explicit security guarantees (see above and the table below for ceasefire violations).

The SMM continued to facilitate and monitor repairs to the Petrivske pumping station near Artema (government-controlled, 26km north of Luhansk). 

The SMM visited two border areas not under government control. While at a border crossing point near Izvaryne (52km south-east of Luhansk) for ten minutes, the SMM saw five cars (four with Ukrainian and one with Russian Federation licence plates) and a bus (licence plates not visible) exiting Ukraine and a bus (with Ukrainian licence plates) and seven pedestrians entering Ukraine. A member of the armed formations then told the SMM to leave the area.* While at a border crossing point near Sievernyi (50km south-east of Luhansk) for five minutes, the SMM observed no traffic or pedestrians entering or exiting Ukraine. A member of the armed formations then told the SMM to leave the area.*

The SMM continued monitoring in Kherson, Odessa, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Chernivtsi and Kyiv.

 

*Restrictions of SMM’s freedom of movement or other impediments to fulfilment of its mandate

The SMM’s monitoring and freedom of movement are restricted by security hazards and threats, including risks posed by mines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and other impediments – which vary from day to day. The SMM’s mandate provides for safe and secure access throughout Ukraine. All signatories of the Package of Measures have agreed on the need for this safe and secure access, that restriction of the SMM’s freedom of movement constitutes a violation, and on the need for rapid response to these violations. They have also agreed that the Joint Centre for Control and Co-ordination (JCCC) should contribute to such response and co-ordinate mine clearance. Nonetheless, the armed formations in parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions frequently deny the SMM access to areas adjacent to Ukraine’s border outside control of the Government (see below). The SMM’s operations in Donetsk and Luhansk regions remain restricted following the fatal incident of 23 April 2017 near Pryshyb; these restrictions continued to limit the Mission’s observations.

 

Denial of access: 

• Near Izvaryne, at the border with the Russian Federation, a member of the armed formations told the SMM to leave the area.
• Near Sievernyi, at the border with the Russian Federation, a member of the armed formations told the SMM to leave the area.
• In Krasnolutskyi (non-government-controlled, 52km south-west of Luhansk), the director of a kindergarten denied the SMM access to the kindergarten, saying that it was not allowed to enter without permission from members of the armed formations.

Related to disengagement areas and mines/UXO: 

• The SMM was prevented from accessing secondary roads in the Zolote disengagement area due to the possible presence of mines and UXO. A Ukrainian Armed Forces officer of the JCCC told the SMM by phone that no demining had taken place during the previous 24 hours. The SMM did not consider it safe to proceed and informed the JCCC.[3]
• The SMM was prevented from accessing secondary roads south of the Zolote disengagement area due to the possible presence of mines and UXO. An armed formation member positioned on the southern side of the Zolote disengagement area told the SMM that no demining had taken place during the previous 24 hours. The SMM did not consider it safe to proceed.
• The SMM did not travel across the bridge in Shchastia (government-controlled, 20km north of Luhansk) due to the presence of mines. At a checkpoint south of the bridge, an armed member of the armed formations told the SMM that he had no information regarding demining activities in the area. The SMM did not consider it safe to proceed.

Nach dem Tod von TV-Mann und Star-Koch Anthony Bourdain spricht Rose McGowan über ihn und seine Freundin Asia Argento. Das Paar habe eine offene Beziehung geführt.

Nach dem tragischen Tod von Star-Koch Anthony Bourdain (†61) veröffentlicht Ex-Schauspielerin und Frauenrechtlerin Rose McGowan (44) einen offenen Brief im Namen von Bourdains letzter Freundin Asia Argento (42). Bourdain stand Argento und deren Kollegin McGowan gleichermassen in der #MeToo-Bewegung bei. 

Weil Asia Argento in Rom wenige Tage vor Bourdains Suizid mit einem anderen Mann abgelichtet wurde, brach über die italienische Schauspielerin ein regelrechter Shitstorm herein. 

Bourdain und Argento führten offene Beziehung

Argento und der Reisereporter waren seit 2017 ein Paar. Die Fotos, die Argento mit dem französischen Journalisten Hugo Clement zeigten, liessen viele Kritiker vermuten, sie habe Bourdain betrogen. McGowan schreibt nun: «Anthony und Asia hatten eine freie Beziehung, sie liebten ohne Grenzen einer traditionellen Beziehung. Sie etablierten die Bedingungen ihrer Beziehung schon früh. Asia ist ein Freigeist – genauso wie es Anthony einer war.»

Asia Argento bat ihre Freundin, mit der sie der Kampf gegen Hollywood-Produzent Harvey Weinstein (66) verbindet, öffentlich, mit den Spekulationen aufzuräumen. In einem Instagram-Post lässt sie McGowan ausrichten: «Für mich und alle anderen, die aufgrund dieses unfassbaren Verlustes leiden, habe ich die stärkste Frau, die ich kenne, Rose McGowan, darum gebeten, meine Stimme zu sein. Um mir dabei zu helfen, die Wahrheit zu schreiben und diese Last zu tragen.» 

«Anthony befolgte die Ratschläge seines Arztes nicht»

In ihrem Statement schreibt McGowan, dass auch Argento mit Suizidgedanken kämpfte, diese aber durch professionelle Hilfe überwinden konnte. «Mir gegenüber sitzt ein unglaublicher Mensch und eine mutige Überlebende, Asia Argento, die mehr durchgemacht hat, als manche ertragen können, und dennoch steht sie.» Und weiter: «Sie wehrte sich gegen ihren Monster-Vergewaltiger, und jetzt wehrt sie sich gegen ein weiteres Monster, Suizid. Den Suizid ihres geliebten Liebhabers und Verbündeten Anthony Bourdain. Ich schreibe diese Wahrheiten, weil ich darum gebeten wurde.»

Laut McGowan habe Bourdain vor seinem Tod professionelle Hilfe erhalten, die Anweisungen seiner Ärzte allerdings ignoriert. «Ich weiss, dass Anthony sich Hilfe suchte, aber die Ratschläge seines Arztes nicht befolgte. Und das brachte uns an diesen Punkt, zu dieser Tragödie, diesem Verlust, dieser Welt des Schmerzes.»

Sie ruft dazu auf, Asia Argento nicht für den Tod ihres Freundes verantwortlich zu machen. «Anthonys innerer Krieg war sein Krieg, aber jetzt ist sie auf dem Schlachtfeld und muss die Schüsse einstecken. Es ist nicht fair oder akzeptabel, sie oder jemand anderen dafür verantwortlich zu machen, nicht einmal Anthony.» (kad)

ALGER- Le problème concernant les difficultés causées à certains Algériens vivant à l’étranger au sujet des extraits de naissance portant la numérotation « bis » dans la transcription de leurs mariages au service d’état civil français, vient de trouver une « issue favorable », a annoncé mardi le ministre de l’Intérieur, des Collectivités locales et de l’Aménagement du territoire, Noureddine Bedoui, sur son compte Facebook.

« Ayant reçu un nombre important de requêtes concernant les difficultés causées à certains de nos compatriotes par les extraits de naissance portant la numérotation +bis+ dans la transcription de leurs mariages au service d’état civil français, j’ai le plaisir d’informer les concernés que notre diplomatie a traité cette question avec la partie française et que ce problème vient de trouver une issue favorable », a-t-il précisé sur ce réseau social.

THALHEIM ZH - In Thalheim ZH hat sich eine Katze auf einen Hochspannungsmasten verirrt, und konnte nicht mehr selbständig runter kommen. Für die Rettungsaktion musste die Feuerwehr einen Spezialisten von der Schweizer Stromnetzbetreiberin «Swissgrid» aufbieten.

Ihr Erkundungstrieb brachte eine Katze in Thalheim ZH in grössere Schwierigkeiten. Das Tier kletterte Ende Mai einen Hochspannungsmasten hoch, bis es nicht mehr weiter kam. Den Rückweg traute es sich offenbar auch nicht mehr zu. Die Folge: Das Büsi blieb stecken - in rund 30 Metern Höhe!

Aber es hatte Glück im Unglück. Passanten bemerkten am frühen Abend die Katze in luftiger Höhe und meldeten sich bei der Feuerwehr, wie der «Landbote» berichtet. Doch: Sofort wurde das arme Tier nicht gerettet. Der Grund:Rettungsaktionen auf Strommasten sind eine heikle Sache.

Die Feuerwehr musste einen Arbeiter der Stromnetzbetreiberin Swissgrid herbeirufen, der den Strom abstellen konnte. Darum habe man den Einsatz in die Nacht verschoben, sagte Rolf Hürlimann von der Feuerwehr Andelfingen und Umgebung im «Landboten». So kam es nirgendwo zu Stromausfällen.

«Improvisieren gehört zu unseren Aufgaben»

Das Büsi liess sich dann problemlos in einen Katzenkorb verfrachten und zurück auf festen Boden befördern. «Sie sass wohl schon eine Weile da oben fest und war froh, als jemand kam», sagte Hürlimann. Das Tier blieb bei der ganzen Aktion unversehrt und konnte danach seinen Besitzern übergeben werden.

«Das war schon ein eher ungewöhnlicher Einsatz», so der Feuerwehrmann. Eine spezielle Schulung für das Vorgehen bei Katzen in Not gebe es aber im Gegensatz zu Grosstierrettungen nicht. «Aber auch das Improvisieren gehört zu unseren Aufgaben», meint er. Die Bevölkerung erwarte ja nicht zu Unrecht, dass die Feuerwehr für jedes Problem eine Lösung finde. (krj)

I am the daughter of a formidable campaigner for women’s reproductive rights in Nepal. Decades ago, when such issues were not part of the playbook for development activists, my mother, a medical doctor, started setting up family planning programs after seeing women die in childbirth, shifting from hospital work into public health.

She established health posts for maternal and infant care. She fought for the reproductive rights of women and girls including access to contraception and comprehensive sexuality education. And most important, she instituted a network of female health workers all over Nepal.

Much remains to be done in Nepal, however, to ensure that those rights are available to all girls and women, regardless of financial or geographical situations.
For a woman raised at a time when it was unusual for girls to be educated, my mother has travelled long distances. Not only did she fight for Nepali women to have a choice, but she ensured that her two daughters had the same privilege.

I am myself now the mother of a daughter, who will soon enter adulthood.  She will then make her own decisions, including about her reproductive choices. My daughter is an Irish national.

So I spent the weekend of 26 May, during the Irish referendum on abortion rights, vacillating between crying with joy in one moment, and overwhelmed with anxiety about the outcome at another. My colleague Aisling Reidy, who is Irish, wrote movingly about her own experience of emotion and exhilaration that weekend. And about the need for other countries to move toward that arc of justice for girls and women.

Many Irish women and men travelled back to Ireland to cast their yes votes. The hashtag #HomeToVote was trending on Twitter that weekend. The resolve to give women rights over their bodies was quite incredible.

I write this not only because I care about my daughter’s rights. I write because the rights of so many women and girls in Ireland will hopefully change as a result of this vote. But above all, I write this also because it is occasion to be proud of my own country.

Nepal, often in the news because of its urgent development needs, was, on this crucial issue, ahead of many of its neighboring countries, decriminalizing abortion in 2002.

Women who had been imprisoned for abortion were released. Women today who want to exercise their choice over their bodies can legally do so, without restriction and with access to safe health care. Much remains to be done in Nepal, however, to ensure that those rights are available to all girls and women, regardless of financial or geographical situations.

But today I celebrate my Nepali mother. And I rejoice for my Irish daughter.

CONSTANTINE- Pas moins de 24 lauréats ayant participé au concours de récitation du Coran, lancé au début de ce mois sacré, ont été récompensés lundi soir, lors d’une cérémonie organisée dans la mosquée Ahmed-Hamani de la nouvelle ville Ali-Mendjeli de Constantine.

En marge de cette cérémonie, s’inscrivant dans le cadre de la célébration de Leilet El Qadr (nuit de destin), Lakhdar Fenit, directeur des Affaires religieuses et des Wakfs de la wilaya,

a affirmé à l’APS que les 3 premiers lauréats de chaque catégorie de récitateurs de Coran à savoir, 60 hizb, 45 hizb, 30 hizb et 15 hizb ont été honorés ainsi que les jeunes récitateurs de moins de 12 ans et les récitateurs des 40 hadiths de l’imam Nawaoui de moins de 10 ans, et ce, sur un total de 200 participants.

Les fidèles de la mosquée ayant répondu aux questions posées tout au long du mois sacré du Ramadan, ainsi que le « petit prêcheur » de moins de 14 ans, qui prononce un sermon du

vendredi préalablement appris devant un jury, ont également été honorés à cette occasion, a précisé ce même responsable, ajoutant qu’un montant d’une valeur de 70 000 DA a été accordé aux premiers lauréats en plus de différentes sommes d’argent au profit des autres gagnants.

Fenit a, par ailleurs, considéré cette cérémonie comme un encouragement pour les récitateurs du Coran pour les inciter à rester fidèles au Saint Coran dans le but de guider les

enfants et les générations émergentes sur la bonne voie, soulignant l’importance d’exploiter le temps des jeunes de manière bénéfique, fondé sur l’amour de la patrie et la religion.

Au cours de cette cérémonie, 8 imams ont été, en outre, honorés ainsi que la veuve du défunt Hadj Brahim, ancien imam de la mosquée Emir-Abdelkader qui s’est vue octroyer une Omra, et 4 autres enfants récitateurs de Coran (60 hizb).

A cette occasion, le petit Mohamed Larbi Ghenai (9 ans) a exprimé sa joie d’avoir clôturé la récitation du Coran et d’avoir été honoré par les autorités locales, assurant qu’il a appris le Saint Coran en 19 mois.

La cérémonie, à laquelle ont assisté les autorités de la wilaya, était empreinte de spiritualité et de ferveur et a été marquée par un exposé sur Leilet El Qadr et des chants religieux présentés par la troupe « Raoudet El Habib ».

Mit dem Stellenabbau sollten Kosten gespart werden, teilte Konzernchef Elon Musk am Dienstag über Twitter mit. Die Kürzungen würden die Produktionsziele für den neuen Wagen «Model 3» in den nächsten Monaten nicht beeinträchtigen, betonte der Milliardär.

Der Stellenabbau gehöre zur Straffung des Tesla-Managements, die er unlängst in Aussicht gestellt hatte. In dem Ende Dezember vorgelegten Geschäftsbericht 2017 hatte das kalifornische Unternehmen 37'543 Mitarbeiter gezählt. 

Tesla ist rasant gewachsen, hat aber mit Verlusten, verfehlten Produktionszielen, der Abwanderung von Führungskräften und tödlichen Elektroauto-Unfällen zu kämpfen. (SDA)

ALGER- Le président du Conseil de la Nation, Abdelkader Bensalah, le président de l’Assemblée populaire nationale (APN), Said Bouhadja et le Premier ministre, Ahmed Ouyahia ont présidé à la grande mosquée d’Alger une cérémonie de distinction des lauréats du Prix international d’Alger de récitation, de psalmodie et d’exégèse du Saint Coran à l’occasion de la célébration de Leilat El Qadr (27ème jour du mois de Ramadhan).

 Bensalah, Bouhadja et Ouyahia ont procédé également à la distinction des trois premiers gagnants du Concours d’encouragement national des jeunes récitants du Coran.

Le premier prix du Concours qui a vu la participation de 53 pays est revenu à l’Algérien Abdelaziz Chokri, tandis que le deuxième prix a été remporté par Mohamed Hadj Asaad de Syrie. Le troisième prix a été remis à Aymen Ben Ahmed Chokri Ibrahim de la Tunisie. 

Les trois lauréats du concours national des jeunes récitants du saint Coran des moins de 15 ans ont été honorés également à cette occasion. Le premier prix a été remporté par le jeune Youcef Ben Aoudi de la wilaya de Biskra, suivi de Ahmed Chérif Nacer de la wilaya de Ouargla, puis de Abderrahmane Mazaoui de la wilaya de Mascara pour le troisième prix. 

A cette occasion, MM. Abdelkader Bensalah, Said Bouhadja et Ahmed Ouyahia ont honoré les membres du jury qui a supervisé ce concours international ainsi que les membres du jury du concours d’encouragement.

Par ailleurs, les récitants du saint Coran ont remis une distinction symbolique au président de la République, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, en guise de reconnaissance des efforts louables consentis au service de la récitation et de l’enseignement du Coran aux générations montantes.

Dans son intervention, l’imam Amlai Mohamed Omar Hassa, directeur des affaires religieuses et des wakfs de la wilaya de Ouargla, a expliqué le sens et les dimensions de la nuit sacré du destin.

Il a également rappelé l’attention particulière qu’attache le président de la République, M. Abdelaziz Bouteflika aux récitants du Coran à travers l’institution de la semaine nationale du Coran, le Prix international d’Alger de récitation, de psalmodie et d’exégèse du Saint Coran, son soutien aux Zaouias, écoles coraniques et mosquées, et ce dans le but de former une génération coranique et élever la parole de Dieu.

L’imam a mis en avant, par ailleurs, la charte de paix et de réconciliation nationale initiée par le président de la République, M. Abdelaziz Bouteflika, relevant que l’Algérie « est devenu un modèle suivi par tous les pays du monde et une expérience pionnière en matière de réconciliation des frères ».

Par ailleurs, la cérémonie a été ponctuée d’une récitation de versets coraniques et la clôture de la lecture du Sahih Al Boukhari qui avait débuté au mois de Rajab dernier au niveau de l’ensemble des mosquées que compte la République.

La cérémonie a été clôturée par un chant religieux présentée par la troupe « Nour El Moustafa » de la wilaya de Mostaganem puis par la récitation de versets coraniques.

La cérémonie de distinction a été rehaussée par la présence du président du Conseil constitutionnel, Mourad Medelci, des membres du Gouvernement et du corps diplomatique de pays musulmans accrédité à Alger et nombre de citoyens.

En 2013, le Prix international d’Alger de récitation, de psalmodie et d’exégèse du Saint Corana été institué par le président de la République, Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Für ein australisches Urlauberpaar in Portugal ist offenbar ein Selfie zum Verhängnis geworden: In dem Badeort Ericeira nahe Lissabon stürzte das Paar von einer 40 Meter hohen Mauer in die Tiefe und starb, wie Rettungskräfte am Dienstag mitteilten.

Alles deute darauf hin, dass die beiden etwa 30 Jahre alten Australier gestürzt seien, als sie ein Handy-Foto von sich machen wollten, sagte Rui Pereira da Terra von der Hafenmeisterei. «Es sieht so aus, dass sie ihr Smartphone fallen gelassen haben und heruntergestürzt sind, als sie versucht haben, es festzuhalten.»

Das Unglück ereignete sich am Strand Dos Pescadores rund 30 Kilometer nordwestlich von Lissabon. Der Strand wird von einer Felsenbucht geschützt und von einer fast 40 Meter hohen Mauer überragt. Die dahinter liegende Promenade bietet einen Blick auf das Fischerdorf und die Steilküste. (SDA)

ALGER- La ministre de la Solidarité nationale, de la Famille et de la Condition de la femme, Ghania Eddalia, a appelé lundi à Alger les mouvements de la société civile et associatifs à l’impératif d’une « coordination continue » entre eux et les directions de l’action sociale en vue de définir exactement la liste des familles et des personnes démunies ayant besoin du soutien de l’Etat et de l’action caritative ».

« Il faut un échange d’informations et de données entre les mouvements de  la société civile et associatifs activant dans le domaine caritatif et humanitaire et les directions de l’action sociale », a déclaré Mme Eddalia  lors d’une visite d’inspection à la Kheima de l’Iftar collectif supervisé par la Fondation Ness El Khir à la place El Kittani de Bab El Oued à l’occasion du mois sacré, soulignant que cette démarche revêt une grande importance en vue de définir la liste des véritables nécessiteux et éviter ainsi la double inscription ».

L’Etat œuvre à travers cet échange à « mettre en place une banque de données précises fixant la liste des véritables familles démunies qui ont besoin du soutien de l’Etat et du mouvement associatif soit durant le mois de Ramadhan ou autre », a-t-elle dit.

Elle a mis en avant, à ce propos, que les portes du ministère à travers la direction du mouvement associatif et l’action humanitaire « sont ouvertes à cet effet », ajoutant que « des instructions ont été données aux directions de l’action sociale en coordination avec toutes les associations activant  dans l’action humanitaire et caritative ».

Parallèlement avec la célébration de l’Aid El Fitr, Mme Eddalia a rappelé à cette occasion que « plusieurs opérations de solidarité ont été programmées au profit des familles démunies, à savoir l’achat des habits pour l’Aid en  faveur des enfants, outre la distribution de plus de 1500 tenues au niveau  de la wilaya d’Alger ».

La Kheima de l’Iftar de la fondation Ness El Khir est encadrée par plus de 200 éléments bénévoles dont la majorité sont des jeunes, avec une superficie de 1400 mètres carrés et d’une capacité de 1000 personnes par jour.

BERN - Sie flüchteten vor Krieg und Bomben. Nun bitten Flüchtlinge die Regierung, die Bedingungen für Waffenexporte auf keinen Fall zu lockern.

Johann Schneider-Ammann (66) will die Kriegsmaterialverordnung lockern – und dürfte damit im von FDP und SVP dominierten Bundesrat eine Mehrheit finden. Gemäss den Plänen des Wirtschaftsministers sollen Waffenexporte auch in Krisengebiete möglich sein. Rüstungskonzerne fordern dies mit Vehemenz.

Weil die Regeln zu Kriegsmaterial-Verkäufen in Verordnungen geregelt sind, kann weder das Parlament noch das Volk mitreden. Der Bundesrat kann die Änderungen in Eigenregie beschliessen.

Die Schweiz ist doch ein neutrales Land?

Kritiker versuchen deshalb auf anderen Wegen, die Bevölkerung zu sensibilisieren. So veröffentlicht die Gruppe für eine Schweiz ohne Armee (GSoA) in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Hilfswerk One Happy Family heute ein aufrüttelndes Video, in dem Flüchtlinge auf der griechischen Insel Lesbos den Bundesrat bitten, auf die Lockerung zu verzichten. 

So sagt etwa Mahmud aus Syrien: «Ich mag Personen nicht, die Leute unterstützen, die jemanden umbringen. Ich wünsche mir eine Welt ohne Waffen.» Ein kongolesischer Flüchtling namens Pitschou ergänzt, er habe als Kind gelernt, dass die Schweiz ein neutrales Land sei. «Weshalb also soll sich die Schweiz in dieses Geschäft verstricken?», fragt er ungläubig. 

«Wenn man Waffen verkauft, ist es, wie wenn man Menschen in den Krieg schickt», meint Kamara aus Liberia, der ebenfalls auf der griechischen Insel Lesbos festsitzt.

«Betroffenen der Kriegspolitik ein Gesicht geben»

SP-Nationalrat Fabian Molina (27) war bei der Ausarbeitung des Filmkonzepts mit dabei. Er sagt: «Mit dem Video wollen wir den Betroffenen der Schweizer Kriegspolitik ein Gesicht geben.» 

Der Zürcher kritisiert den bundesrätlichen Plan scharf: «Wer Waffen exportiert, ist für die Flucht von unzähligen Flüchtlingen verantwortlich. Das muss aufhören und darf nicht noch verschlimmert werden!»

BDP will Volk mitreden lassen

Nicht nur die Linke, auch Mitteparteien üben Kritik. So verlangt die BDP, dass die Richtlinien für Waffenexporte vom Parlament festgelegt werden. Und das Volk das Referendum ergreifen kann. Konkret sollen die Kriterien, die bestimmen, ob ein Waffenexport bewilligt wird, nicht mehr in einer Verordnung geregelt sein, sondern im Kriegsmaterialgesetz.

Das Volk wird sich ohnehin bald dazu äussern müssen. Die nötigen Unterschriften für die Volksinitiative «Für ein Verbot der Finanzierung von Kriegsmaterialproduzenten» der Jungen Grünen und der GSoA sind beisammen. Die Initiative verlangt, dass Nationalbank, Stiftungen und Pensionskassen nicht mehr in Kriegsmaterialproduzenten investieren dürfen. 

Im letzten Jahr exportierten Schweizer Firmen Kriegsmaterial im Wert von fast einer halben Milliarde Franken.
