Plenáris ülés : A fegyveres konfliktusokat, az emberi jogok megsértését, a klímaváltozást és a globalizációt nevezte a legfőbb kihívásoknak António Guterres az Európai Parlament szerdai plenáris ülésén Strasbourgban. A portugál ENSZ-főtitkár az EP-képviselők együttműködését kérte ezeken a területeken és elmondta: „Az erős és egységes Európa az erős és hatékony ENSZ alapvető fontosságú pillére”.

Plenartagung : Der Generalsekretär der Vereinten Nationen, António Guterres, hielt heute (17.5.) eine Ansprache vor den EU-Abgeordneten in Straßburg. Er sprach von den großen globalen Herausforderungen: der Multiplikation von Konflikten, Menschenrechtsverletzungen, dem Klimawandel und der Globalisierung. Hier müssten die EU und die Vereinten Nationen eng zusammenarbeiten, so Guterres. Er betonte: "Ein starkes und geeintes Europa ist ein Grundpfeiler für starke und wirksame Vereinte Nationen."

Plenary sessions : “A strong and united Europe is an absolutely fundamental pillar of a strong and effective United Nations," said António Guterres, addressing MEPs in Strasbourg on 17 May. The Portueguese UN Secretary-General, the first European one since Austria’s Kurt Waldheim in the early 1980s, said global challenges such as the multiplication of conflicts, a human rights violations, climate change and globalisation required the EU and the UN to work together.

Au sein de la Combined Task Force 150, sous mandat français depuis près d’un mois, l’interception de 2 boutres suspects par la frégate Surcouf au large de l’Afrique de l’Est permet de réaliser une saisie de près de 400 kg d’héroïne. Rendue possible après un travail minutieux de coopération et de coordination, cette interception marque la détermination et l’engagement de la TF150 pour lutter contre ces trafics illicites.

Dans la matinée du 28 avril, un boutre suspect est repéré par un avion de patrouille maritime. Le recoupement  d’indices et l’étroite collaboration au sein de la coalition confirme les suspicions de trafic illicite. En application des lois internationales, le Surcouf intercepte alors le boutre et envoie son équipe de visite à bord pour procéder à une fouille approfondie. Après plusieurs jours de recherche méthodique, près de 200 kg d’héroïne sont découverts, saisis puis détruits par les équipes du Surcouf, sur ordre de l’amiral français commandant la zone maritime océan Indien (Alindien).

Le 3 mai, grâce aux informations fournies par la coalition, le Surcouf intercepte un second boutre suspect et procède à des fouilles, lesquelles permettent de réaliser une nouvelle saisie de près de 200 kg d’héroïne.

Le Surcouf signe ici les premiers succès de ce mandat français au sein de la CTF 150, après seulement trois semaines de déploiement. Pour le contre-amiral Olivier Lebas, commandant de la CTF150, « le Surcouf et son équipe de visite ont su conduire des fouilles méthodiques et rigoureuses dans des conditions difficiles, aboutissant à ces succès contre le trafic de drogue ».

Avec un total de 400 kg d’héroïne, c’est l’équivalent de 4 millions de doses qui a été détruit pour une valeur commerciale estimée à plus d’une centaine de  millions d’euros. Le commandant de la CTF 150 souligne que ces saisies « démontrent, une fois encore, l’importance de l’action des unités de la CTF 150 qui permettent de réduire l’introduction sur les marchés africain et européen de quantités importantes de drogue, privant ainsi les réseaux de crime organisé et terroristes de source de financement importante».

Mise en place à la suite des attentats du 11 septembre 2001, la CTF150, placée sous commandement des Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), rassemble une coalition de 18 nations qui fournissent des moyens navals et aériens pour assurer la permanence de la mission. Dans une zone regroupant la mer Rouge, le golfe d’Aden, l’océan Indien et la corne de l’Afrique, la CTF 150 a pour mission principale le combat contre les trafics illicites qui financent le terrorisme mondial.
