On Wednesday, 4 September AFET committee will vote on the budgetary amendments to the Budget 2025. AFET Members will have their say on the budget allocated to matters such as the development of capabilities under the Common Security and Defence Policy, support for third countries and enlargement, humanitarian aid and the European External Action Service.

At the AFET constitutive meeting of 23 July 2024, Members re-elected David McAllister (PPE, DE) as Chair for two and a half years.

During the same meeting, AFET also elected its four Vice-Chairs. Together with the Chair, they form the Bureau of the committee.

The constitutive meetings of the European Parliament's standing committees and subcommittees took place in Brussels on 23 July 2024, following the appointments of their members in the plenary sitting of 16-19 July.

During the constitutive meetings, each committee and subcommittee elected its respective bureau, made up of a Chair and Vice-Chairs, for a two-and-a-half year mandate. The newly set up committees then started holding their regular meetings during the same week following their constitutive meeting.

The AFET constitutive meeting took place on Tuesday 23 July from 09.00 to 09.30 (Brussels).
