In his address to the UN Security Council, President Charles Michel reiterated the EU's condemnation of Russia's war in Ukraine focusing on sexual violence and trafficking as well as Russia's role in the global food security crisis.

The High Representative issued a declaration on behalf of the EU condemning the Russian Presidential decrees of 25 May and 30 May, simplifying the process for granting Russian citizenship and issuing Russian passports to Ukrainian citizens of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.

As part of a sixth package of EU sanctions, the Council imposed restrictive measures on an additional 65 individuals and 18 entities in respect of the ongoing unjustified and unprovoked Russian military aggression against Ukraine, and of actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

The EU adopted a new round of restrictive measures over internal repression in Belarus targeting additional 12 persons and 8 entities.

On Thursday 9 June 2022 the President of the European Council Charles Michel, will co-host the second edition of “Women in Conflicts” in Brussels, bringing together women leaders and survivors of conflicts.

The financial services committee (FSC) today appointed Harald Waiglein as his chair for a third two-year term, starting on 14 June 2022.
