In the margins of the informal Ecofin Council meeting in Prague, EU ministers today agreed a statement in which they underlined their readiness to support an additional €5 billion macro-financial assistance operation to Ukraine

La sécurité énergétique et les prix élevés de l'énergie figuraient en tête des sujets à l'ordre du jour lors de la visite du président Charles Michel au chancelier Olaf Scholz. Le président Michel a insisté sur l'importance d'agir ensemble et obtenir des résultats afin de soutenir les citoyens et les entreprises. Les échanges des deux dirigeants ont également porté sur la guerre menée par la Russie contre l'Ukraine et sur le rôle géopolitique de l'Europe.

At the press conference following the Eurogroup meeting, President Paschal Donohoe underlined the main topics of the discussions, including the economic situation in the euro area, tackling inflation and the prospects of the digital euro.

The Council extended the mandate of the EU civilian mission EUCAP Sahel Niger until 30 September 2024.

Today the Council adopted a decision that fully suspends the visa facilitation agreement between the EU and Russia. Consequently, the general rules of the visa code will apply to Russian citizens.

The Council approved €15 million in support of the military component of the SADC Mission to Mozambique under the European Peace Facility.

The meeting of the European Council will take place on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 October

During his visit to Qatar, President Michel participated at the inauguration of the EU delegation. President Michel emphasised that the visit is an important signal of the EU's political will to strengthen ties with Qatar in order to overcome global challenges related to energy, economy and security sectors.
