On Monday 30 September the Committees on Foreign Affairs (AFET) and Development (DEVE) and the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) will hold a joint meeting for the presentation of the nominees for the 2019 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. The prize is awarded to individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the fight for human rights across the globe, drawing attention to human rights violations. The prize also provides support to the laureates and their cause.
The decision on the final laureate will be announced on 24 October and the award ceremony will take place on 18 December during the plenary session in Strasbourg.
