On Tuesday 8 October the Committees on Foreign Affairs (AFET) and Development (DEVE), together with the Human Rights Subcommittee (DROI), will vote to shortlist the three finalists for the 2019 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. The final laureate will be chosen by the Conference of Presidents on 24 October and the award ceremony will take place on 18 December in Strasbourg.
The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought is awarded each year by the European Parliament to honour individuals and organisations defending human rights and fundamental freedoms.
