Der französische Präsident Emmanuel Macron betonte am Mittwoch (31. Mai) die Bedeutung der NATO, warnte jedoch auch vor einer zu starken Abhängigkeit der USA. 

Die Tech-Industrie scheint einen EU-Gesetzesvorschlag übersehen oder weitgehend unterschätzt zu haben, der das Haftungssystem für die kommenden Jahrzehnte definieren sollte und die Tür zu Massenklagen öffnen könnte. Erst jetzt scheint die Lobbying-Maschinerie langsam anzulaufen.

Es wird erwartet, dass sich die Staats- und Regierungschefs von 47 europäischen Ländern am Donnerstag (1. Juni) in Moldau zu einem Gipfeltreffen treffen werden, das als Zeichen der diplomatischen Stärke gegenüber Russland inszeniert wird.

Bei einer Kundgebung vor dem irischen Parlament forderten Umweltgruppen am Mittwoch die politischen Entscheidungsträger auf, das stark kritisierte EU-Gesetz zur Wiederherstellung der Natur zu unterstützen und den Trend zur Verschlechterung der Ökosysteme umzukehren.

Die EU-Grenzschutzagentur Frontex erstellt aufgrund der "geringen Zuverlässigkeit der gesammelten Daten" unglaubwürdige Risikoanalysen zur Migration, wie eine Untersuchung des Europäischen Datenschutzbeauftragten (EDSB) am Mittwoch (31. Mai) ergab.

Das US-Unternehmen Plug Power kündigte eine Milliardeninvestition für den Aufbau von Wasserstoffproduktionsanlagen in Finnland an, während die Energiestrategie und die Klimaziele von der finnischen Partei in den Regierungsverhandlungen in Frage gestellt wurden.

Die Regional- und Kommunalwahlen in Spanien am Sonntag haben das Verschwinden der liberalen Partei Ciudadanos aus der politischen Landschaft bestätigt. Auf das historisch schlechte Ergebnis folgt nun die Entscheidung der Partei, nicht an den für den 23. Juli angesetzten vorgezogenen nationalen Wahlen teilzunehmen.

Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass ein Terroranschlag auf niederländischem Boden verübt wird, ist im letzten halben Jahr gestiegen, so der Nationale Koordinator für Sicherheit und Terrorismusbekämpfung. Ein Bericht der Behörde weist auf die Bedrohung durch rechtsextreme und islamistische Gruppen hin.

Die Arzneimittelknappheit hat in den letzten fünf Jahren in Frankreich alarmierend zugenommen, sagte die Vorsitzende des Senatsuntersuchungsausschusses für Arzneimittelknappheit, Sonia de La Provôté, am Mittwoch.
