General Brice Oligui Nguema has been named "transitional president" of Gabon. The military seized power in the resource-rich central African country after Ali Bongo, who has been president since 2009, was declared the winner of Sunday's presidential election. Oligui was previously seen as a member of Bongo's inner circle. The UN, the African Union and governments worldwide have condemned the coup.

The base is located around 700 kilometers from Ukraine, but less than 50 kilometers from Estonia. According to the Russian news agency Tass, four II-76 military transport aircraft were damaged.
