USS Montogomery completes acceptance trials of US Navy

(BRUXELLES2) Le navire de soutien Frankfurt qui évolue en Méditerranée dans le cadre de l’opération militaire Sophia (EUNAVFOR Med) est intervenu à environ 40 kilomètres au nord de Tripoli (Libye), lundi (16 mai), pour venir en secours d’un canot de migrants en détresse.

115 personnes ont été récupérées, dont 24 femmes. Une personne blessée a été prise en charge par les équipes médiales. Le canot, classé comme un obstacle à la navigation, a été coulé. Les migrants ont ensuite été transférés sur l’Aquarius, le navire des ONG de SOS Méditerranée. Transfert achevé à 19h05 précise la Bundeswehr.

Depuis le début de leur engagement dans la zone, il y a un an, le 7 mai 2015, la marine allemande est venue au secours de 14.065 personnes et a engagé en permanence deux navires dans l’opération européenne en Méditerranée.
