Highlights - Foreign policy priorities of the Czech Presidency - Committee on Foreign Affairs

Thu, 07/07/2022 - 11:16
On 13 July from 15.30 – 16.30, AFET will debate the external policy priorities of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU with Jan Lipavský, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. In the context of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, external relations will remain at the top of the Presidency's agenda. The Minister and MEPs will discuss current geopolitical challenges and ways to overcome them at this crucial time in the European foreign policy.
While much of EU's efforts during this Presidency will continue to be placed on defending Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the future EU-UK relations will still be high on the agenda as well as enlargement, the Eastern and Southern neighbourhood, transatlantic relations, as well as the Sahel and the Indo-Pacific.

Missions - Mission to Tunis (Tunisia), 10 to 14 April 2022 - 10-04-2022 - Committee on Foreign Affairs

Tue, 07/05/2022 - 17:26
The AFET delegation visited Tunis from 10 to 14 April 2022. The main purpose of the mission was to reassess the path of Tunisia following more than a decade of democratic transition, during which democratic institutions have been established and tested. The recent increasing concentration of powers in the hands of the President since summer 2021 represents a cause for concern and justified an official visit.
While the President has suspended the Tunisian parliament already in July 2021, merely days before the visit in the end of March 2022, he proceeded to formally dissolve it. This made the visit even more timely than it already was.
