On 25 April 2023, Bettina Jakobsen, Member of the European Court of Auditors, will present the Special report 27/2022 "EU support to cross-border cooperation with neighbouring countries" to the AFET and CONT Committees.
In this audit, the Court assessed whether the programmes of the cross-border cooperation between EU Member States and the sixteen neighbourhood countries during the 2014-2020 financing period have been effective in enhancing territorial cooperation across the EU's external borders. The Court concluded that the programmes targeted relevant needs, but their complementarity with other EU-funded programmes was insufficient, and that the EU Delegations were not sufficiently involved.
