At least four people were killed and more than a dozen injured, some of them seriously, in an attack in central Vienna on Monday evening. According to the interior minister, the perpetrators shot at people indiscriminately. One of the attackers was shot dead by the police; he was allegedly a supporter of the IS militia. Europe's press warns of an increase in violence motivated by Islamism.

The pro-European former prime minister Maia Sandu has won the first round of the presidential election in the Republic of Moldova. The EU Commission wants to commit the member states to establishing minimum wages which could be implemented either by law or through agreements between the social partners.
