The prime ministers of Sweden and Finland have met in Stockholm to discuss how the war in Ukraine has changed the security situation and the potential Nato accession of their countries, which have remained neutral so far. Finland's head of government Sanna Marin said it was clear that nothing offered a better security guarantee than Nato's Article 5. A decision is expected by the end of June.

A meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday failed to produce an agreement on imposing an oil embargo against Russia. According to EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, however, this option is not off the table. In the meantime, creative ways are being found to sidestep the sanctions already imposed, Europe's press observes.

On Wednesday evening, the heads of state of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland travelled to Ukraine to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky and send a signal of solidarity.
