EU member states are launching the rule of law mechanism for the first time and freezing funds for Hungary amounting to 6.3 billion euros. Budapest will receive money from the EU's Covid recovery fund, but this will be subject to stringent conditions. The new government in Copenhagen is composed of parties both left and right of the centre. Following Eva Kaili's arrest, today the EU Parliament will discuss the removal from office of the currently suspended Vice President. Kaili is suspected of having accepted large sums of money from Qatar in exchange for influencing EU decisions. Belgian prosecutors have charged Kaili and several other suspects with corruption and forming a criminal organisation. Europe's press debates the consequences.
