 Eurogroup President, Paschal Donohoe, issued a statement welcoming the political agreement reached by the Council and the European Parliament on the reform of the EU’s Crisis Management and Deposit Insurance (CMDI) framework.

At the Global Summit: Health and Prosperity through Immunisation in Brussels, world leaders pledged support for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, leading to a total of more than $9 billion secured against a targeted $11.9 billion budget for its next five-year strategic period from 2026 to 2030 (Gavi 6.0). Additional donor commitments are expected in the coming months.

Member states’ EU ambassadors agreed on a mandate for negotiations with the European Parliament regarding the proposed European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP). The EDIP aims to strengthen the European Defence Technology Industrial Base through regulatory measures and grants worth €1.5 billion.

The Council approved conclusions setting out the priorities that the EU will follow at the upcoming 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Council imposed restrictive measures on five persons responsible for serious human rights violations and abuses in Syria, including supporting the use of chemical weapons under the al-Assad regime, and for their involvement in the recent violence in coastal regions that resulted in many civilian casualties.
