In the context of the past days' tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan, President Michel reiterated the EU’s commitment to deepen its cooperation with both countries to promote a South Caucasus that is secure, stable, peaceful and prosperous for the benefit of all people living in the region.

The Council extended EU restrictive measures against the Syrian regime for an additional year, until 1 June 2023, in light of the continued repression of the civilian population in the country.

During the press conference held at the end of the two-day special meeting of the European Council, President Charles Michel presented the main outcome of the discussions, notably on Ukraine, food security, energy and defence.

The Council added two persons and one group to the EU sanctions regime against ISIL/Da'esh and Al-Qaeda and persons, groups, undertakings and entities associated with them.
