In the presence of the European Parliament Coordinator on Children’s Rights, Vice President Ewa Kopacz
On 1 March 2023 DROI will hold a debate on the violation of international law and human rights of children from Ukraine forcibly deported to or retained in Russia, which will provide a thorough insight of the extent of the situation, the legal dimension of the issue, and the victims’ reparation efforts.
Experts will brief Members on the most recent developments surrounding the circumstances and grave consequences on the matter, including first-hand information from the ground. Members will assess possible avenues to follow up the recommendations laid down in the EP resolution adopted on 15 September 2022.
The following guest speakers have confirmed their participation: Dubravka Šuica - Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Democracy and Demography (will attend in person). Representatives from Magnolia (NGO based in Ukraine) and the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group will participate remotely.
