Weltweit sind Menschen aufgrund ihrer sexuellen Orientierung und Geschlechtsidentität (SOGI) schweren Menschenrechtsverletzungen ausgesetzt. Nun will der UN-Menschenrechtsrat einen Experten für den Schutz von LSBTI-Personen ernennen.

Bei einer Geiselnahme in einer Kirche in der Normandie ist ein Priester getötet worden. Die beiden Attentäter von Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray haben sich nach Angaben des französischen Präsidenten zur Extremistenorganisation Islamischer Staat (IS) bekannt.

With 23 participating countries, including all of the world’s largest financial centres, covering the vast bulk of global financial services trade, the TiSA negotiations on financial services trade are strategically important for the EU. They are likely to deliver commitments and rules, which go significantly beyond the GATS package negotiated over two decades ago – and to extend their umbrella to a greater range of countries. In addition, the level of market access commitments ultimately incorporated into TiSA will set a new benchmark and reference point for future EU FTA negotiations. Depending on the outcome of remaining negotiations, the TiSA may also establish influential new and consolidated texts on such matters as data transfer, forced localisation, source code, regulatory transparency, and domestic regulation.

The European Parliament aims to become the first 100% carbon neutral EU institution, as decided at the end of last year by the Bureau (President, Vice-Presidents and Quaestors). In order to fulfil this commitment, a call for tender was opened on 16 July 2016.

A delegation of Members of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Security and Defence and the Committee on Foreign Affairs, led by Anna Fotyga (ECR, PL), Chair of the Subcommittee, travelled to Mali on 19-20 July. The delegation included Mr David McAllister (EPP, DE), Mr Bogdan Zdrojewski (EPP,PL), Mr Gilles Pargneaux (S&D, FR), Mr Juan Fernando Lopez Aguilar (S&D, ES), Mr Ryszard Czarnecki (ECR, PL), and Mr Javier Nart (ALDE, ES).

The Members express their deepest condolences to the Malian people and the families of the Malian soldiers who lost their lives during the terrorist attack that took place yesterday, 19 July in Nampala, in the central region of the country.

The delegation was visiting Bamako in order to discuss with the Malian political authorities concerned with foreign, security and defence matters and with related cooperation with the EU, to visit the EU missions on the ground and their international partner missions.

The Delegation of Members travelled to the Koulikoro Training Centre of the EUTM Mali and saw the important work that the EU mission carries out there. The Members were particularly impressed to see the first joint training of the Liaison Officers of from the G5 countries. This is in the framework of the enhancing of cooperation in the Sahel region.

The Members also expressed their high regard for the work and professionalism of both EU Missions' ability to coordinate work with MINSUMA.

Allgemeines : Die Arbeitslosenquote in der EU beträgt über 8 Prozent. Über drei Viertel der Unionsbürger sagen, dass die EU zur Bekämpfung der Arbeitslosigkeit mehr Maßnahmen setzen solle. Das ergibt eine neue Eurobarometer-Umfrage, die vom Parlament in Auftrag gegeben wurde. Der Vorsitzende des Beschäftigungsausschusses Thomas Händel (GUE/NGL) aus Deutschland betont: "Europa muss gemeinsam mehr Anstrengungen für Investitionen und gute, nachhaltige Arbeit unternehmen."
