"Trade policy instruments can provide additional leverage to the implementation of international environmental and labour standards," they said. The policy could impact the US, which reneged on climate change promises, and China.

According to the official data, 11,846 people died in Russia's capital in April of this year, roughly a 20 percent increase from the 10-year average for April deaths, which is 9,866, the Moscow Times reports. The numbers suggest that the city's statistics of coronavirus deaths may be higher in reality than official numbers indicate. Russia confirmed 11,012 new coronavirus infections Sunday, bringing the country's official number of cases to 209,688.

Their preliminary findings are part of broader research into the use of medicinal cannabis in treating cancer. "The results on Covid-19 came from our studies on arthritis, Crohn's disease, cancer and others," says Dr. Igor Kovalchuck, a professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Lethbridge, in an email to DW.

Belarus held World War 2 memorial parades more or less as normal on 9 May despite the coronavirus pandemic and cancellations of similar events all over Europe on social distancing grounds. Photos showed crowds of thousands of people, military parades, and VIP motorcades in Minsk, with few wearing masks. "Belarus celebrates this significant date at a difficult time," president Aleksander Lukashenko, who has been accused of covering-up infection rates, said.

Malta's ambassador to Finland since 2014, Michael Zammit Tabona, has resigned after posting a message on his Facebook page which said: "Seventy-five years ago we stopped Hitler. Who will stop [German chancellor] Angela Merkel? She has fulfilled Hitler's dream! To control Europe." His post was later deleted and he made no statement. Malta's EU image had previously soured due to corruption scandals and the unsolved murder of a top journalist.
