Plenary sessions : Brexit, EU relations with the US and Russia, migration, economic and social progress, and the defence union were the key political challenges for 2017 debated by MEPs, Commission Vice-President Jyrki Katainen and Council President Donald Tusk on Wednesday. Mr Tusk briefed MEPs on the outcome of the December 2016 meeting of EU heads of state or government.

Plenartagung : Nach der Wahl des neuen Präsidenten des Europäischen Parlaments haben die Abgeordneten am Mittwoch in zwei Wahlgängen 14 Vizepräsidenten gewählt. Um gewählt zu werden, benötigten die Kandidaten jeweils die absolute Mehrheit der gültigen abgegebenen Stimmen. Die neugewählten Vizepräsidenten kommen aus sechs verschiedenen Fraktionen. Im Anschluss hat das Parlament auch 5 Quästoren durch Zuruf gewählt.

Plenartagung : Antonio Tajani (EVP, IT) hat am Dienstag die Wahl zum Präsidenten des Europäischen Parlaments gewonnen. Mit 351 Stimmen lag er im vierten Wahlgang vor Gianni Pittella (S&D, IT), für den 282 Abgeordnete gestimmt hatten.
