K-141 Kursk was an Oscar-II class nuclear-powered cruise-missile submarine of the Russian Navy which was lost with all hands when it sank in the Barents Sea on 12 August 2000. It was the penultimate Oscar II class submarine designed and approved in the Soviet era.

Project 23000E or Shtorm (Storm) is a multi-purpose, heavy aircraft carrier project being designed by the Krylov State Research Center for the Russian Navy. The cost of the supercarrier is estimated as being between $1.8 billion and $5.63 billion (at August 2015 exchange rates), with development expected to take ten years. The carrier is being considered for service with the Russian Navy's Northern Fleet. Nevskoye Design Bureau is also reported to be taking part in the development project.

The projection ship ordered by Turkey will based on the Spain LHD ship Juan Carlos 1 (built by the Spanish shipyard Navantia) which also serve as the base of 2 futurs Australian Canberra-class landing helicopter dock (LHD) HMAS Canberra and HMAS Adelaide.

European Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker called again for the bloc to build an army, saying a flock of hens posed more of a threat than its current military capabilities. "A bunch of chickens looks like a combat formation compared to the foreign and security policy of the European Union," Juncker told a Brussels forum in typically lively language.

Poland has selected the US Patriot system and the H225M Caracal helicopter as the European nation faces an increasingly aggressive Russia. Poland has chosen the Caracal from Airbus Helicopters, beating competition from the Sikorsky S-70 Black Hawk and AgustaWestland AW149, the Airbus unit.

A former secret underwater base in the Arctic was ceded in 2008 to a businessman who is now leasing the base to Russian ships. Former Norwegian high-ranking officials are protesting this mistake, with the Arctic waters regaining strategic importance in light of the latest tensions between Russia and NATO. In the absence of anticipating the revival of the Russian giant, which deploys its imposing fleet in the Barents Sea, Norway decided in 2008, in a regional context that was then pacified, to separate from the Olavsvern base near the port of Tromsø.

Konaré a envisagé un plan stratégique de l’Union africaine de 1,7 milliard de dollars, pour créer un Parlement panafricain (en Afrique du Sud), un tribunal international permanent, un fonds permanent pour la paix et une armée de métier.
