European Council

The Council today adopted a set of conclusions on the role of a deepened and fully functioning Single Market for a strong economic recovery and a competitive and sustainable European Union.

The Council authorised the President of the Commission to endorse, on behalf of the EU, the "Leaders' Pledge for Nature" in the context of the UN Summit on Biodiversity.

President Charles Michel met President Nicos Anastasiades in Nicosia. He reiterated the EU’s complete solidarity with Cyprus.

European Council President Charles Michel visited the Moria Camp on the Greek island of Lesbos and underlined the European solidarity for the migrants, for the people of Lesbos and for all the aid workers.

Upon his arrival in Greece, President Michel spoke at a press briefing together with Prime Minister Mitsotakis.

European Council President Michel, European Commission President von der Leyen, German Chancellor Merkel and Chinese President Xi met by video conference. They discussed EU-China relations including climate change, economic and trade issues. Leaders also discussed international and other issues of concern and exchanged views on responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
