(B2) L’opération européenne de lutte contre les trafiquants en Méditerranée (EUNAVFOR MED / Sophia) a un nouveau commandant adjoint. La cérémonie de passation de fonctions a eu lieu ce vendredi (26 février) au quartier général de l’opération (OHQ) à Rome.

C’est un pilote de chasse, le contre-amiral Gilles Humeau qui prend ainsi le relais de son homologue Hervé Bléjean. A son actif les opérations d’interdiction et de surveillance en ex-Yougoslavie de 1993 à 1999. Actuellement au secrétariat général de la mer, Gilles Humeau a été aussi navigué sur le BPC Mistral, notamment comme numéro 2 lors de l’opération d’évacuation ‘Balliste » au Liban en 2006. Auparavant, il avait commandé l’escadrille 16F et dirigé le centre d’entraînement, d’instruction et de préparation des missions (CEIPM) de Landivisiau.

L’opération est toujours dirigée par un officier supérieur italien, le vice-amiral Enrico Credendino.

Dear Dr. Turke good morning,
according to your request I need to underlined that the number are not fixed but changeable due to the situation. We can normally count on around 160 people in the Operational Headquarters (OHQ) in Rome and around 60 personnel acting for the staff of the Force Commander on board ITS CAVOUR (the flagship).
The total of EUNAVFOR MED personnel is around 1460, depending on the assets involved.
