The Committee on Security and Defence will hold a debate with Dr Rachel Tecott, Assistant Professor in the Strategic and Operational Research Department at the US Naval War College, on 15 November. The aim is to bring forward a critical assessment of the US approach to military assistance. The Committee will look into the shortcomings in the US and its NATO allies' strategy for building professional armies in partner countries.
Following the success of the first European Gender Equality Week organised in October 2020, the European Parliament continued this important initiative and held the second European Gender Equality Week during the last week of October 2021. The Subcommittee on Security and Defence will hold a hearing on the security in the Eastern Partnership area and the impact of Russian military doctrine, force posture and capability development, on 27 October 2021.
The hearing is taking place in view of the own-initiative report on 'Security within the Eastern Partnership and the role of the Common Security and Defence Policy'. The Committee will also look into the growing malign and destabilising impact of Russia's Wagner Group, in particularly in Africa.

In the context of the exponential growth of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the President of the European Parliament has announced a number of measures to contain the spread of epidemic and to safeguard Parliament's core activities.
The current precautionary measures adopted by the European Parliament to contain the spread of COVID-19 do not affect work on legislative priorities. Core activities are reduced, but maintained to ensure that the institution's legislative, budgetary, scrutiny functions are maintained.
The meetings will be with remote participation for Members (being able to view and listen to proceedings, ask for the floor and intervene in the meeting). Other participants are invited to follow the meeting through webstreaming.Following these decisions, the next meetings of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence (SEDE) will take place on 27 and 28 October 2021 (online).
