Amendments to the EU Passenger Name Record data (EU PNR) proposal will be discussed in the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee on Thursday 4 June from 11.15 to 12.15. Of the 836 amendments tabled, 47 were presented by rapporteur Timothy Kirkhope (ECR, UK) in his draft report and 789 by MEPs from various political groups.

General : Following the publication of the blacklist of European politicians and officials, the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, on Tuesday informed the Russian Ambassador to the EU that insofar as the Russian authorities have failed to ensure transparency in their decisions, in line with international law and legal obligations, and allow the targeted individuals the right of defence and of appeal, he considers that it is now justified to take appropriate measures in response.

Abgeordnete, die EU-Kommission und Vertreter der nationalen Regierungen haben am 1. Juni eine informelle Einigung über einen Vorschlag für eine Verordnung zur Tiergesundheit im Trilog erzielt. Dieser bezieht sich auf Krankheiten wie die Maul- und Klauenseuche, die Blauzungenkrankheit und die Vogelgrippe. Die schwedische EU-Abgeordnete Marit Paulsen (ALDE), Verhandlungsführerin des Parlaments betont, "das Grundprinzip der Verordnung sei die Prävention und nicht die Behandlung der Krankheiten".

Measures to prevent and treat animal diseases such as avian flu or African swine fever were informally agreed by MEPs, the Latvian Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the European Commission on Monday. The draft EU law, on diseases that are transmissible among animals and potentially to humans too, will merge and update many scattered items of old legislation, so as to help prevent and halt new outbreaks and keep pace with scientific progress.

Allgemeines : Die Fraktionsvorsitzenden und Parlamentspräsident Martin Schulz haben am Montag (1.6.) in Luxemburg Premierminister Xavier Bettel getroffen. Er hat die Prioritäten der kommenden luxemburgischen EU-Ratspräsidentschaft präsentiert. Das Land übernimmt die Präsidentschaft von Lettland am 1. Juli für sechs Monate. Schulz sagte, Luxemburg sei ein Stützpfeiler der europäischen Integration.

Development MEPs called on companies in all countries to adopt country-by-country reporting and make all information public in order to fight tax evasion and illicit money flows in developing countries, in a resolution adopted on Monday afternoon. It also called on the EU's financial institutions to ensure that companies receiving EU support do not participate in tax evasion and avoidance.

Allgemeines : Diese Woche treffen sich die EU-Abgeordnete in den Ausschüssen und bereiten in den Fraktionen die Plenarsitzung kommende Woche (9.-12.6.) vor. Auf der Agenda stehen die Änderungsanträge zur Fluggastdatenspeicherung, die internationalen Dimensionen von Steuervorbescheiden und die Trilogverhandlungen zur Tiergesundheit. Ein Abkommen zwischen EU und USA sollte den Zugang europäischer Unternehmen zum US-Markt erleichtern, darf jedoch keine EU-Standards untergraben oder das Recht auf Regelgebung im öffentlichen Interesse einschränken, meinen die Abgeordneten des Handelsausschusses am Donnerstag. In ihrer Empfehlung drängen sie auch auf Reform und Verbesserung der juridischen Instrumente, die im Streitfall wischen Staaten und Investoren zum Einsatz kommen sollen.

Allgemeines : Im vergangenen Jahr haben die Europäerinnen und Europäer ein neues EU-Parlament gewählt - es war die achte Europawahl und zugleich eine Premiere: Zum ersten Mal bestimmte die Europawahl auch über den Präsidenten der EU-Kommission. Die Europäische Volkspartei, in der CDU und CSU aus Deutschland Mitglied sind, gewann die Europawahl und folglich wurde ihr Spitzenkandidat Jean-Claude Juncker zum Präsidenten der Europäischen Kommission gewählt.

Tunisia’s Prime Minister Habib Essid, will meet the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Human Rights and Security and Defence subcommittees on Thursday at 9.00. This will be his first visit to the European Parliament since he became Prime Minister in February this year.

Plenartagung : Gesunde Ernährungsgewohnheiten sollten früh gefördert werden. Deshalb müssen die EU und ihre Mitglieder sich stärker dafür einsetzen, Kinder zum Verzehr gesunder Lebensmittel sowie lokaler Erzeugnisse zu ermutigen, so das Parlament am Mittwoch. Die Abgeordneten wollen gewährleisten, dass den Kindern verstärkt Kenntnisse über gesunde Ernährung vermittelt werden und sie in der Schule weiterhin Milch, Obst und Gemüse aus EU-Programmen erhalten.
