U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced sanctions against military leaders in Myanmar.

US President Joe Biden has levied sanctions on a number of military leaders in Myanmar following the February 1 coup which overthrew the country's de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

The Myanmar coup unfolded on 1 February as the military arrested senior members of the newly-elected parliament right before it was due to convene for an inaugural session. State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, President Win Myint and other officials were put under house arrest.
