Debate: Russia's new constitution: what is the real goal?

On 22 April the Russian people are to approve a host of amendments to the country's constitution in a referendum not provided for in the electoral law. The changes were brought before the Duma by Russian President Vladimir Putin and include reforms of the state structure and various references to Russian fundamental values. Journalists explain that these references are not what really counts here.

Highlights - AFET Delegation to Turkey - Committee on Foreign Affairs

From 24 to 27 February, eight Members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs visited Ankara and Mardin (Turkey), the first AFET mission to Turkey since March 2015.
This timely visit allowed the Members to gauge the prospects of EU-Turkey relations and assess the situation on the ground regarding the rule of law and fundamental freedoms, the Kurdish conflict and the EU's support to Syrian refugees in Turkey, ahead of the upcoming annual report on Turkey. The delegation met with high-level representatives of the Turkish government, including Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the opposition, parliamentarians and civil society representatives.
