(B2) Le navire de soutien allemand, Werra (A-514) engagé dans l’opération européenne de lutte contre les trafiquants en Méditerranée (EUNAVFOR Med) est intervenu ce mercredi au secours de deux navires en difficulté au nord de la Libye.

">En début de matinée, le Centre italien de coordination de sauvetage maritime (IMRCC) a sonné l’alerte, demandant aux navires les plus proches d’intervenir sur deux bateaux possibles en détresse dans les eaux internationales, au nord de la côte libyenne.

">Le navire allemand « Werra», qui était sur la zone, « a localisé deux petits canots, chargés de migrants qui naviguent dans des conditions difficiles » précise un communiqué du Service diplomatique européen. «

">233 migrants ont pu être récupérés à bord ». Le navire se dirige vers le port de Catane, défini comme port de débarquement par l’IMRCC.

Cette intervention est la première du genre pour une des unités d’EUNAVFOR Med. Même si leur mission n’est pas dédiée au secours en mer, les navires européen ont l’obligation « conformément à la loi internationale (…) de prêter assistance aux personnes en détresse en mer, sans égard à leur nationalité, le statut et les circonstances » précise le SEAE. Le Werra, comme les autres unités EUNAVFOR MED sont d’ailleurs « prêts et équipés pour effectuer les tâches connexes, secouru les migrants ».
