Former Norwegian high-ranking officials are protesting this mistake, with the Arctic waters regaining strategic importance in light of the latest tensions between Russia and NATO. In the absence of anticipating the revival of the Russian giant, which deploys its imposing fleet in the Barents Sea, Norway decided in 2008, in a regional context that was then pacified, to separate from the Olavsvern base near the port of Tromsø.

ThyssenKrupp sales his submarine shipyard Kockums to Saab

The German naval shipbuilding industry is comprised of numerous yards; however, only Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW) and Thyssen-Nordseewerke (TNSW) have experience in the construction of submarines.

Before its merger with ThyssenKrupp, HDW had already created partnerships with international shipbuilding companies. In 1999, HDW acquired Kockums, the leading Swedish naval shipyard, which pioneered the development of stealth surface vessels (Visby-class frigates) and Stirling AIP systems for submarines.

The Russian Khibiny System or Hibini System (Хибины)

On April 10, 2014 US destroyer "Donald Cook" with cruise missiles "Tomahawk" entered the neutral waters of the Black Sea on April 10. The purpose was a demonstration of force and intimidation in connection with the position of Russia in Ukraine and Crimea. The appearance of American warships in these waters is in contradiction of the Montreux Convention about the nature and duration of stay in the Black Sea by the military ships of countries not washed by this sea.
