The Council adopted two assistance measures increasing to €2 billion the reference amount under the European Peace Facility' that currently allows the EU to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Weekly schedule of President Charles Michel 23-29 May 2022

European Council President Charles Michel hosted President Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Prime Minister Pashinyan of Armenia in Brussels. They focused their discussions on the situation in the South Caucasus and the development of EU relations with both countries as well as the broader region.

President Michel held meetings with the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency and political Leaders. They agreed to convene a meeting in Brussels in the next weeks to work upon a roadmap setting out the priority reforms and the political agreements needed to reinvigorate the EU path for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina, President Michel met with Šefik Džaferović, Željko Komšić and Milorad Dodik, members of the Presidency. They discussed how to give momentum to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European perspective.

The Council’s Permanent Representatives Committee today adopted a negotiating mandate on the proposal for a decision on the obligation to notify CORSIA (carbon offsetting and reduction scheme for international aviation) offsetting requirements.

President Michel continued his Western Balkan trip with a visit to Albania, where he emphasised the EU's firm commitment to Albania's accession path. President Michel also thanked Albania for standing united with the EU in the support to Ukraine.

During the first part of his Western Balkan visit, President Michel, speaking in Serbia, reaffirmed the EU's full commitment to the country’s accession negotiations. He added that the EU is counting on Serbia’s support to help end Russia’s war in Ukraine. President Michel also visited the Belgrade Science-Technology Park.
