A rendszerváltást követő években a magyar ellenőrző-kalibráló közösség számára kinyílt a világ. Jak-40-esükkel, majd később az L-410-essel végigrepülték és kalibrálták a Balkánt, dolgoztak Lengyelországban, de eljutottak Türkmenisztánba és Egyiptomba is. Sorozatunk befejező részében a hazai repülések mellett teljesített számtalan külföldi munka közül emelünk ki néhányat.

A külföldi ellenőrző repülések 1992-93-ban kezdődtek. Az egykori Jugoszláviának volt egy kalibráló gépe, amely a délszláv háború kitörésekor Belgrádban maradt. A horvátok jó érzékkel úgy vélekedtek, hogy ha a polgári reptereket nem ellenőrzik, akkor egy elhúzódó háborút követő újranyitáskor rengeteg hatósági munka kell majd. Márpedig egy repülőteret újra beindítani majdnem annyi, mint újat indítani. Úgy döntöttek, hogy akkor is üzemeltetik a reptereket, ha nincs forgalom, és amit a hatóság előír nekik, azt ellenőrzik. A Légiforgalmi és Repülőtéri Igazgatóság (LRI) navigációs szakemberei 1992-ben kétszer is jártak Horvátországban, majd 1993 januárjában ismét visszatértek és az immár GPS-szel felszerelt Jak-40-essel Zágrábban kezdték a munkát. A reptéri életképhez akkoriban a segélyszállítmánnyal érkező katonai gépek, jobbára C-130 Herculesek és C-160 Transallok látványa is hozzátartozott. A magyar kalibráló csoport a feladat pontosítása, és a tiltott légterek tisztázása után kora délután szállt fel a légi ellenőrzésre. A földre telepített Minilir segítségével a zágrábi repülőtér műszeres leszállító rendszerének ellenőrzésével kezdtek, majd körrepüléssel az irányadókat ellenőrizték. Négyórás repülés után este hat órakor köszöntek el az irányítóktól, akik a légtereket szabaddá téve segítették a munkát.
