Unterausschuss für Sicherheit und Verteidigung (SEDE) - Europäisches Parlament

Following the presentation of the European Defence Action Plan by the European Commission and the launch of the preparatory action on defence research, the Commission and the European Defence Agency will present the progress achieved in the setting up of the EU's first defence research programme in the SEDE meeting on 25 January.

The workshop was organized on October 13, 2016 at the initiative of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence (SEDE) with the aim of assessing relations between Saudi Arabia and the Member States in the field of armaments cooperation, touching on the absence of a common European position in this area. Agnès Levallois, lecturer at Sciences Po Paris and ENA, is affiliated to the Académie Diplomatique and works as a consultant, specialising in political, strategic and economic issues in the Middle East. Jane Kinninmont is a senior research fellow and deputy head of the Middle East and North Africa programme at Chatham House.

On 15 December, the Committee on Constitutional Affairs and AFET/SEDE committees will hold a joint meeting to have a first exchange of views on the text of the draft report 'Constitutional, legal and institutional implications of a common security and defence policy: possibilities offered by the Lisbon Treaty'. The report examines the legal possibilities offered by the Lisbon Treaty as well as the necessary institutional set-up to make CSDP more operational.
