Die Europäische Kommission will, dass Finanzunternehmen und andere Unternehmen mehr Kundendaten austauschen können, um einen "breiteren offenen Finanzraum" mit neuen Dienstleistungen für die Bürger zu schaffen, so ein Entwurf der Digitalfinanzstrategie.

Die EU-Kommission hat Einzelheiten zu ihre ehrgeizigeren neuen Klimazielen bekannt gegeben. Kommissionspräsidentin Ursula von der Leyen hatte schärfere Grenzwerte für den Ausstoß von Schadstoffen bis 2030 zu einem zentralen Thema ihrer Rede vom dem Parlament gemacht.

In the context of the exponential growth of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the President of the European Parliament has announced a number of measures to contain the spread of epidemic and to safeguard Parliament's core activities.

On 2 July 2020, the Conference of Presidents adopted the revised EP Calendar 2020.

The current precautionary measures adopted by the EP to contain the spread of COVID-19 do not affect work on legislative priorities. Core activities are reduced, but maintained to ensure that the institution's legislative, budgetary, scrutiny functions are maintained.

Following these decisions, the next SEDE meeting is scheduled to take place on 28 September 2020 (online).

Das Europäische Parlament hat Neuwahlen in Belarus gefordert. Zudem drängten die Abgeordneten die Europäische Union, Sanktionen gegen Präsident Lukaschenko zu verhängen. In einer Entschließung erkannte eine breite Mehrheit den Wahlausgang in Belarus nicht an.

On 21 September, MEPs of the Foreign Affairs Committee will hold a debate with Zhang Ming, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU. The ongoing negotiations to conclude a long-standing investment deal between the EU and China, disinformation, the situation in Hong Kong, human rights, climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic are expected to be some of the issues raised by MEPs in the upcoming discussions with China's EU ambassador Zhang Ming, who will be present at the committee meeting.
The debate will kick off on Monday, 21 September, at 17.00 CET.

The debate comes after the virtual meeting that European Council President Charles Michel, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and German Chancellor Angela Merkel held with Chinese President Xi Jinping earlier this week, on 14 September.

Rund 30 in Frankreich ansässige Nichtregierungsorganisationen forderten am Mittwoch Präsident Emmanuel Macron auf, das Abkommen zwischen der Europäischen Union und dem Mercosur, das "katastrophale" Auswirkungen auf Klima, Wälder und Menschenrechte haben würde, "endgültig zu begraben".

Der türkische Präsident Recep Tayyip Erdogan hat Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel (CDU) im Konflikt um Gasvorkommen im östlichen Mittelmeer seiner Bereitschaft zu einer Verhandlungslösung versichert.

Im Streit um die künftigen Beziehungen zur EU hat sich Großbritanniens Premierminister Boris Johnson zuversichtlich gezeigt, dass es doch noch zu einer Einigung mit Brüssel kommt. Sein geplantes Binnenmarktgesetz möchte er allerdings nicht ändern.
