On Thursday, 4 December 2025, at 9:00-10:45, the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) will hold a workshop on Mechanisms of international justice to fight impunity. Against the backdrop of challenges and attacks on multilateral institutions, the discussion will explore how international tribunals, universal jurisdiction and transitional justice processes can contribute to accountability, justice and reparation for victims at international level.
Two prominent academics will present their study on the matter, Prof. Veronika Bílková and Dr Federica Cristani from the Institute of International Relations in Prague, with findings and recommendations. The workshop will then turn to a forward-looking discussion a possible EU strategy to protect the international system of justice, bringing together representatives from FIDH - The Global Initiative Against Impunity for International Crimes and Serious Human Rights Violations, the Open Society Foundation, and the European External Action Service.

The policy dialogue on “Transnational Repression (TNR): Mapping Trends and Improving Responses” is jointly organised by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN Human Rights), the European Parliament Sub-committee on Human Rights (DROI) and the European External Action Service (EEAS), in collaboration with the Tackling TNR Europe Civil Society Working Group.
TNR constitutes an increasing danger both by posing systemic threats to human rights, civic space, democratic institutions and the rule of law and by frequently undermining national security, sovereignty and legal order of host states.

Policy makers and experts from EU institutions, the UN, Member States, civil society and academia will come together to exchange views about their findings and experiences, and explore ways to improve responses to TNR, including through policy initiatives, synergies and collaborations. This is a concrete follow-up action by DROI on the recently adopted by the Parliament report on Addressing TNR of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs).

SEDE sent a delegation of six Members to Greenland (Nuuk and Ilulissat) from 15 - 19 September 2025, led by SEDE Chair Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann. The main aim of the mission was to engage directly with those involved in defence preparedness, including senior government figures, parliamentarians, military and civilian forces and local community leaders - in order to enhance EP engagement, understand security concerns facing Greenlanders and explore avenues for further EU support.

En Espagne, l'extrême droite occupe largement le terrain politique et médiatique, surtout depuis que Vox a fait irruption, il y a dix ans. Un parti qui n'hésite pas à se réclamer de la dictature de Francisco Franco, décédé il y a cinquante ans, le 20 novembre 1975. Un pouvoir considéré comme le plus sanglant des régimes fascistes nés dans les années 1930, et un pays toujours aux prises avec des batailles mémorielles qui, à la faveur de la poussée de l'extrême droite, ont pris une nouvelle dimension.

Poursuivis pour crimes de guerre et crimes contre l'humanité, les cinq hommes, qui n'ont pas la nationalité allemande, sont accusés d'avoir commis des exactions dans le camp palestinien de Yarmouk, dans la banlieue sud de Damas. Jugés devant le tribunal de Coblence en vertu du principe de compétence universelle, leur procès est le premier du genre organisé en Allemagne depuis la chute de Bachar el-Assad.

Il y a 80 ans, le 20 novembre 1945, s’ouvrait à Nuremberg, en Allemagne, un procès historique contre des responsables du IIIe Reich nazi qui a capitulé en mai de la même année. Les quatre alliés vainqueurs de la Seconde Guerre mondiale n’ont pas opté pour une justice expéditive, mais ont créé un tribunal militaire international chargé de juger les criminels nazis dans le respect de l’État de droit. Des concepts inédits, comme les crimes contre l’humanité, sont posés. Ils fondent les bases du droit pénal international contemporain.

L'Ukraine a reçu une nouvelle proposition de paix de la part des États-Unis, a déclaré mercredi 19 novembre un haut responsable ukrainien. Mais à la surprise de Kiev, ce plan reprend des nombreuses demandes formulées jusqu'ici par Moscou, notamment que Kiev cède les territoires actuellement sous contrôle total ou partiel de la Russie et réduise son armée de plus de moitié.

L'Union européenne (UE) a présenté mercredi 19 novembre un ensemble de mesures censées accélérer la mobilité des armées sur le continent face à la menace russe.
