Saudi blogger Raif Badawi, the Democratic Opposition in Venezuela and the Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov are the three finalists for this year's Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, after a vote during a meeting of the foreign affairs and development committees and the human rights subcommittee. The laureate will be decided by Parliament's president and political group leaders on 29 October and the award ceremony will be held in Strasbourg on 16 December.

DROI will hold a hearing on the International Day against the Death Penalty on 22 September to highlight the annual observance of the International Day against the Death Penalty on 10 October. The main objective of the hearing is to assess the current global trends with regard to the application of the death penalty across the world.

Des mesures pour faire face aux crises de la migration et des réfugiés ainsi que la situation dans les pays de transit en Méditerranée ont été débattues lors d'une audience conjointe organisée par les commissions des affaires étrangères, des affaires intérieures et des droits de l'homme mardi matin. Les députés ont exprimé leur déception à l'issue de la réunion du Conseil Justice et Affaires intérieures de lundi et ont exhorté l'UE à assumer ses responsabilités.
