Members of the Foreign Affairs Committee will discuss the motives and the possible consequences of Turkey’s recent attempted coup, which claimed hundreds of lives and pushed the country in a turmoil, with Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn and representatives of the European External Action Service on Tuesday morning. MEPs are likely to emphasize the need to protect democratic freedoms and assess the future of the EU-Turkey relations too.

Általános : Európa több ízben is megtapasztalta az utóbbi időben, hogy mit jelent a terrorfenyegetettség, jelenleg az európaiak többsége szerint a terrorizmus elleni harc kell, hogy legyen az elsőszámú prioritás az EU számára. Az Eurobarometer felmérésében a válaszadók 82%-a komolyabb fellépést vár az Uniótól. Ez egybecseng a magyarok véleményével, akiknek mintegy háromnegyede szerint az EU-nak jobban be kellene avatkoznia a terrorizmus elleni küzdelembe.

Általános : A franciaországi Calais melletti menekülttáborba látogatott az EP állampolgári jogi szakbizottságának delegációja szerdán, hogy a helyszínen vizsgálja az ott élő menekültek körülményeit. Az Ana Gomes (szocialista, portugál) vezette küldöttség civil szervezetek, a helyi hatóságok és a francia-brit határőrség képviselőivel egyeztetett és ellátogatott oda is, ahol migránsok és menekültek ezrei arra várnak, hogy átkelhessenek a csatornán az Egyesült Királyság felé.

The EU needs a common definition of “normal car use”, says Renault. Diesel engine NOx emissions are the price paid to hit lower CO2 targets, says the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association. But Volkswagen is ashamed of cheating to beat strict US emissions laws. So said contributors to the “triple bill” of hearings in held by the Committee of Inquiry into Emission Measurements in the Automotive Sector (EMIS) on Wednesday and Thursday. Its work will continue after the summer break.

Általános : A lőfegyverekről szóló irányelv módosításáról fogadott el jelentést szerdán a belső piaci szakbizottság. A jelentés szerint az uniós szabályok azokra a lőfegyverekre is érvényesek lennének, amelyeket vaktöltényessé alakítottak át, ezeket ugyanis a terroristák visszaalakíthatják éles lőfegyverekké. Az uniós országoknak erősebb ellenőrzést kell bevezetniük a vaktöltényes üzemmódra alakított fegyverekre, hogy azokat ne lehessen éles fegyverekké alakítani a lőfegyverekről szóló frissített irányelvhez a Belső Piaci Bizottságában szerdán megszavazott módosítások alapján. A képviselők által elfogadott változások biztosítják, hogy a vaktöltényes fegyverekre is érvényes maradnak a fegyvertartás uniós szabályai, ezáltal bezárva a tavalyi párizsi terrortámadások által feltárt joghézagot.

Általános : A gépjárműiparban alkalmazott kibocsátásméréssel foglalkozó vizsgálóbizottság a Volkswagen, a Renault és a Mitsubishi képviselőivel, valamint Stavros Dimas környezetvédelemért felelős volt uniós biztossal tart meghallgatást szerdán és csütörtökön. A bizottság azt vizsgálja, hogy az autógyártók sértettek-e uniós szabályt az eddigi károsanyag-kibocsátást mérő tesztek során. Csütörtökön Kathleen Van Brempt, a vizsgálóbizottság elnöke élőben válaszol a témában feltett kérdésekre Facebook-oldalunkon.

A 9-strong MEP delegation from the Civil Liberties Committee will be in Calais on Wednesday 13 July to visit facilities for migrants and refugees, in the vicinity, which for years has been a gathering spot for people trying to cross from France to the UK. MEPs will meet with local authorities, NGOs, the French-British border authorities and the refugees and migrants themselves in order to assess the situation on the ground.

Általános : A fegyvertartást szabályozó EU-s irányelv tervezetéről szavaz a belső piaci szakbizottság, míg a Volkswagen-botrány kapcsán vizsgálódó szakbizottság autógyártók képviselőivel szervez meghallgatást a héten. Az eurózóna országaiból álló eurócsoport elnöke, Jeroen Dijsselbloem és a francia, olasz, görög, luxemburgi, szlovák és máltai pénzügyminiszterek egyeztetnek az euróövezet költségvetéséről a gazdasági szakbizottságban. Plenáris ülés : Ma kezdődik a NATO-csúcstalálkozó Varsóban, amelynek során az EU és a NATO együttes nyilatkozatot ír alá, hogy meghatározott területeket fokozzák az együttműködést. Az EU globális stratégiája is tartalmazza, hogy az Uniónak többet kell tennie Európa védelméért. Urmas Paet (liberális, észt) képviselőt kérdeztük a részletekről, aki dolgozik a Parlament jelentésén, hogy javaslatokat tegyen a tagállamok közötti szorosabb együttműködésre a biztonság- és védelempolitika területén.

Plenáris ülés : A Brexitről és annak következményeiről vitáztak az EP-képviselők a keddi plenáris ülésen, ahol a múlt heti uniós csúcstalálkozó volt a téma. A képviselők közül a legtöbben arra kérték az európai vezetőket, hogy álljanak ki és szólaljanak fel az Unió és értékei mellett. A Parlament emellett védelmet kért a közérdekű információt bejelentőknek és zöld utat adott az európai határ- és parti őrség felállításának. Following a hearing at the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON Committee), a large majority of ECON Coordinators were satisfied that Vice-President Dombrovskis is in a position to assume the portfolio that is transferred to him and look forward to a strong leadership in a key file for the stability of the EU and the prosperity of EU citizens.

Plenary sessions : EU Commission plans to allow claims that sugary drinks and energy drinks containing caffeine boost “alertness” or “concentration” were vetoed by the European Parliament on Thursday. Displaying these claims on drinks cans would have led to higher sugar consumption among adolescents, who are the largest group of energy drink consumers, said MEPs in their resolution.

Plans to strengthen the EU’s visa suspension mechanism, which enables it to temporarily reintroduce visa requirements for third-country nationals in the event of sudden surges in irregular immigration, unfounded asylum applications or a failure to cooperate with the EU on “readmissions” (i.e. returns), were amended and approved by Civil Liberties Committee MEPs on Thursday. MEPs widened the range of grounds upon which a visa waiver may be suspended.
