Plenartagung : Die Fraktionsvorsitzenden kommentierten die kürzlich vom US-Präsidenten Donald Trump unterzeichnete Durchführungsverordnung über Einreisebeschränkungen für Menschen aus sieben verschiedenen Ländern. Die meisten Abgeordneten bezeichneten die Beschränkungen als willkürlich und unvereinbar mit den Grundwerten westlicher Demokratien wie Freiheit, Nichtdiskriminierung und Solidarität.

Plenartagung : Der Präsident des Europäischen Parlaments Antonio Tajani kündigte an, dass eine Erklärung der EU-Außenbeauftragten zu den Einreisebeschränkungen infolge der Durchführungsverordnung des US-Präsidenten der Tagesordnung am Mittwoch als erster Debattenpunkt hinzugefügt würde. Eine Debatte zur Migration im zentralen Mittelmeerraum wurde ebenfalls für Mittwoch neu auf die Agenda gesetzt, sowie eine Aussprache über Demokratie und Rechtsstaat in Rumänien, als erster Punkt am Donnerstag.

Parliament and Council negotiators agreed on wholesale price caps on Tuesday evening. Caps are significantly lower than those proposed by the Commission. Wholesale price caps define how much telecoms operators can charge each other for using their networks to carry cross-border “roaming” calls.

The US administration’s ban on citizens from seven Muslim-majority states entering the country could "seriously undermine current global efforts towards a fair international sharing of responsibilities for refugees", said Development and Foreign Affairs MEPs in a joint resolution voted on Tuesday.

Albania needs to implement EU-related reforms credibly, and ensure that its June parliamentary elections are free and fair, if it is to start EU accession negotiations, said Foreign Affairs Committee MEPs on Tuesday. In a separate resolution, they also urged Bosnia and Herzegovina to overcome its ethnic and political divisions and remain united throughout the EU membership application evaluation process, to prove that it is a functioning state.

To protect adopted children’s best interests, MEPs want the EU Commission to require all EU countries to recognise each other’s adoption certificates automatically. Their draft resolution proposes a European Certificate of Adoption to speed up automatic recognition process. The debate and vote will take place on Thursday.

Allgemeines : Diese Woche findet die "Europäische Parlamentarische Woche" statt: Die EU-Abgeordneten empfangen ihre Kollegen aus den nationalen Parlamenten, um mit ihnen über die Themen Wirtschaft, Wachstum und Beschäftigung zu debattieren. Des Weiteren findet am Mittwoch (1.2.) und Donnerstag (2.2.) eine Plenartagung statt, in deren Rahmen sich die Abgeordneten unter anderem mit der Energieunion und dem US-Einreiseverbot befassen werden.

The provisional deal with the Council on the updated EU firearms directive was endorsed by Parliament’s Internal Market Committee on Thursday by 25 votes to nine, with two abstentions. The revised law tightens the controls on blank firing and inadequately deactivated weapons like those used in the Paris terror attacks. It also requires EU countries to have a monitoring system in place for the issuance or renewal of licences and to exchange information with one another.

The provisional deal on the revision of the EU firearms directive, which sets out the conditions under which private persons may lawfully acquire and possess guns or transfer them to another EU country, was backed by the Internal Market Committee on 26 January 2017. The vote by the full Parliament is expected to take place in March.

Allgemeines : Mitglieder des EU-Parlaments, Vertreter der europäischen jüdischen Gemeinschaften und andere wichtige Ehrengäste kamen am Mittwoch (25.1.) im EU-Parlament in Brüssel zu einer Veranstaltung anlässlich des Internationalen Holocaust-Gedenktages (27.1.) zusammen. In seinen Eröffnungsworten bezeichnete Parlamentspräsident Tajani den Holocaust als "die schlimmste Tragödie in der europäischen Geschichte". Die UNESCO-Sonderbotschafterin Beate Klarsfeld nahm auch an der Gedenkveranstaltung teil.
