In his speech in Warsaw US President Donald Trump pledged the US's commitment to mutual defence in Nato and harshly criticised Russia's foreign policy. Trump struck the right tone, some commentators write with relief. But in view of his statements so far others fear a new rift between Eastern and Western Europe.

The alliance consists of twelve Central and Eastern European countries bordering on the Baltic, the Adriatic and the Black Sea that plan to intensify economic cooperation with each other. Debate: Protest march from Ankara to Istanbul

The demonstrators taking part in the "March for Justice" are expected to reach Istanbul on Sunday. The protest march initiated by the CHP, Turkey's largest opposition party, started in Ankara roughly one month ago in reaction to the conviction of MP Enis Berberoğlu. At least 10,000 people have now joined in. Can the protest make a major impact?

Debate: Will EU nationals become second-class citizens?

The British government on Monday presented its plans for the 3.2 million EU nationals living in the UK after Brexit. Those who have lived in Britain for more than five years will be able to apply for unlimited residency with full access to education, the pension system and public healthcare. All others would receive a temporary residence permit. Not all media see the plans as sound.
