European Council President António Costa invited leaders to an informal meeting of the members of the European Council on 22 January 2026 in Brussels, during which they will discuss recent developments in transatlantic relations and their implications for the European Union, and coordinate on the way forward.

On 14 January 2026, European Council President António Costa delivered a speech at the New Year's reception co-hosted by the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission.
