On Wednesday, 12 July, the SEDE committee will welcome Alain Ratier, Director-General of EUMETSAT, the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, and Rolf Densing, Director of Operations and Head of the European Space Operations Centre at the European Space Agency for a discussion on the protection of Europe's space infrastructure. This exchange of views is a follow-up to SEDE's recent own-initiative report on space capabilities for European security and defence.

One year after the adoption of the Warsaw Declaration, Members will assess the progress in EU-NATO cooperation, the way forward in intensifying the strategic partnership and the overall security environment facing both organisations. Officials from both the EEAS and NATO will inform inter alia about the joint fight against hybrid threats, the coordination on cyber defence, the safeguarding of maritime security and interaction in the field of defence industry and research.

On 12 April, the SEDE committee organised a workshop on the implementation of the EU's arms export control system, in the context of its work on the annual report on arms exports. The workshop focused on the issues of strengthening compliance with the Council common position governing control of exports of military technology and equipment, compliance with reporting obligations, increasing transparency and public scrutiny, and the development of the EU's institutional framework.

On 22 June, SEDE will welcome Canadian MPs and Senators, travelling as part of the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association of the Parliament of Canada, to discuss European defence policy, EU-Canada cooperation in CSDP and Canada's participation in NATO's Enhanced Forward Presence. Gabor Iklody, Director Crisis Management and Planning Directorate, EEAS and Gabriel Bernier, Head of the Defence Policy Section, NATO will give opening presentations to kickstart the debate.

On 21 June 2017 from 14:30 to 19:30, the European Parliament will organise a high-level conference on migration management in the European Parliament in Brussels. The conference will bring together political leaders, policymakers and practitioners to contribute to a reflection on a strategy to manage migration flows, and ensure a stable and prosperous environment at our borders. On 21 June, SEDE will hold an exchange of views with the Commissioner for the Security Union, Sir Julian King. Members will take stock of the state of play of the implementation of the European Agenda on Security and the progress made towards an operational and effective Security Union. The debate will also focus on the increasing interdependence between internal and external security, and the legislative initiatives to be taken in upcoming months to tackle terrorism and organized crime.
