Wildlife trafficking is worth an estimated €20 billion annually. It has grown in recent years, becoming one of the biggest and most profitable forms of organised cross-border crime.

The EU-US data protection framework, known as the “Umbrella Agreement” was backed by a large majority in the Civil Liberties Committee on Thursday morning. The deal will ensure high, binding data protection standards for data exchanged by police and law enforcement authorities across the Atlantic.

Nem jelölteti magát újra az Európai Parlament élére – jelentette be csütörtök délelőtt Martin Schulz, a képviselő-testület öt éve hivatalban lévő elnöke. Schulz közölte, hogy harmadik parlamenti elnöki mandátum helyett jövőre a németországi parlamenti választásokon indul majd a szociáldemokraták listáján választókörzete, Észak-Rajna-Vesztfália képviseletében.

Diplomacy, development and defence should be the pillars of EU foreign policy, say Foreign Affairs Committee MEPs in a resolution voted on Thursday. They call on member states to show more unity and trust, and to speak with one voice, so as to make the EU a global player. MEPs also advocate a more realistic strategy on Russia and a “less for less” policy towards countries that try to throw democracy into reverse.

Plenáris ülés : A hozzáadottérték-adó (héa) jelenlegi uniós szintű szabályozása 1993. óta érvényben van, és már nem felel meg az egyre növekvő cégek és az e-kereskedelem követelményeinek, valamint nem elég hatékony a csalásokkal szemben. A Bizottság dolgozik a szabályozás reformján, amelyet a Parlament is véleményez. Az EP-képviselők a csütörtöki plenáris ülésen fogadták el javaslatukat.

Plenáris ülés : Az oroszok és iszlám terroristák propagandája egyre nagyobb nyomást jelent az EU-nak, erre figyelmeztetnek a képviselők egy szerdán megszavazott állásfoglalásban. Az EU-ellenes kampányok ellensúlyozása érdekében a képviselők az EU apró „stratégiai kommunikációs” munkacsoportjának megerősítését nagyobb befektetést a figyelemfelhívásba, oktatásba, online és helyi médiába, oknyomozó újságírásba és információs műveltségbe javasolnak.

A Bizottság tagjaira vonatkozó etikai kódex szigorítását kezdeményezte szerdán Jean-Claude Juncker. A javaslat értelmében a volt biztosok esetében az eddigi 18-ról 24 hónapra, a testület elnökének esetében pedig 3 évre nőne az az időszak, ameddig be kellene jelenteniük Brüsszelben, ha valahol munkát vállalnak.

Plenary sessions : The EU authorisation for Bentazone herbicide, which expires on 30 June 2017, should not be renewed as its safety has yet to be confirmed, says a non-binding resolution voted on Wednesday. MEPs point out that Bentazone can easily leak directly into groundwater and is suspected of interfering with human reproduction.
